House To Vote On 2 'Dreamer' Bills Next Week, Paul Ryan Says
One version would give young immigrants living in the U.S. illegally a pathway to citizenship. The other includes a pathway to legal status.

WASHINGTON, DC — Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan says his chamber will consider two immigration bills next week. One is reportedly more of a conservative version and the other is more bipartisan, media outlets said.
Ryan announced the forthcoming votes late Tuesday and avoided having to take a bipartisan bill to the floor that would reopen a debate on protecting so-called "Dreamers," referring to young immigrants who have been living in the U.S. unlawfully since they were kids.
The compromise version — which remains a work in progress — will probably include a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, The Associated Press reported.

The conservative version includes a pathway to legal status, but not for outright citizenship, AP said.
House Republicans plan to hold a private meeting Wednesday to figure out how to move forward on the divisive issue, that some in the GOP fear could hurt their candidates in this year's elections.
