Students Stage 'Lie-In' At White House (Video)

They held protest signs, including one that read "We Call B.S."

WASHINGTON, DC — A large group of protesters — including kids as young as 8 years old – gathered outside the White House to speak out against gun violence and call for gun control, even as President Donald Trump spent the Presidents Day holiday at one of his golf courses. Students staged the so-called "lie-in" on Monday, laying down silently among dozens of protesters and reporters.

Participants held signs including one that read: "Military style weapons have no place on our streets."

Another read: "We Call B.S."

Video of the scene showed dozens of demonstrators standing and sitting with signs. The protesters reportedly read off names of children whose lives were taken by gun violence.

BuzzFeed News reported that 50-75 students participated in the rally. Many talked about the AR-15 assault-style rifle and called for improved background checks. They also referenced the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado as well as the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
