Supreme Court Sends NC Gerrymandering Case Back To Lower Court

The decision erases a lower court ruling that found the state's congressional maps were unconstitutionally gerrymandered.

WASHINGTON, DC — The Supreme Court has declined — for now — to hear a North Carolina gerrymandering case and ordered a lower court to take a second look at it. The decision Monday erased a previous ruling that found the state's maps unconstitutionally favored Republicans, CNN reported.

The high court ordered a lower court to revisit the case because the justices issued a decision last week in a similar redistricting case out of Wisconsin.

In the latest case, GOP lawmakers in North Carolina were accused of redrawing the state's 13 congressional districts so as to give Republicans a significant advantage, the News and Observer reported. Those challenging the maps now have to convince a panel of judges that a voter in each district was harmed.
