Trump Claim Of Eliminating Regulations? Overblown, Says Report

The president and his staff wildly exaggerate how many regulations that his administration has done away with, says a report by Bloomberg.

"The President has gotten rid of nearly 1,000 regulations," White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said back in October, echoing a common theme of the Trump Administration.

The president himself, just last month, took it a little further, saying "“In the history of our country, no president, during their entire term, has cut more regulations than we’ve cut."

Turns out, it's just not true.

A new investigative analysis by reporters from Bloomberg News concludes: "Government records—and in some cases the agencies carrying out Trump’s policies—tell a very different story."

The report finds that even the White House knows that the number 1,000 is an exaggeration.

Bloomberg reports that the White House gave them a list of 860 regulations that it either killed or stalled.

Of those, hundreds weren't even under consideration, had been withdrawn by the Obama administration, or were abandoned by agencies after determining they weren't necessary.

In all, Bloomberg determined, only 27 existing regulations have been repealed by the Trump administration.
