Trump On Florida Shooting: Your Suffering Is Our Burden (Watch)

The White House says President Donald Trump will address the nation on Thursday morning about the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

WASHINGTON, DC — President Donald Trump is slated to address the nation about the school shooting in Parkland, Florida that left 17 people dead.

The speech is slated to begin 11 a.m. Eastern Time. You can watch the speech in its entirety here.

Former student Nikolas Cruz opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Wednesday afternoon. Cruz was arrested shortly after the killing spree began just before the end of the school day, said Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel.

Twelve individuals were killed in the school building, two outside the school and one on the street, the sheriff said. Two died at the hospital from their injuries. Fourteen people injured and were treated at local hospitals.

Trump said the entire nation "with one heavy heart" is praying or the victims.

He said the federal government will provide the community whatever it needs.

"Your suffering is our burden also," he said. "No child, no teacher should ever be in danger in an American school. No parent should ever have to fear for their sons and daughters when they kiss them goodbye in the morning," he said.

Each victim had dreams love and talents to share with the world, he said.

"Today we mourn for all of those who lost their lives," he said. "We comfort the grieving and the wounded, and we hurt for the entire community of Parkland, Florida that is now in shock and pain and searching for answers."

He thanked law enforcement, teachers and first responders for their courage.

Trump said he plans to visit Parkland to meet with families and meet with local officials to coordinate federal assistance.
