Weavings, Wires, Roots, and Branches: Artist Talk & Reception

Will EvansSaturday, May 23 at 8 PM (Doors at 7 PM) Tickets:&nbsp;$35 ($40 at the door)&nbsp;Will Evans creates music as an open invitation—to drop your guard, tune in, and move through the world a little more freely. Rooted in folk tradition yet unconfined by genre, his songs blend thoughtful, quotable lyrics with sunlit grooves and global textures, encouraging listeners to reconnect with their most honest selves. Based in Rhode Island, the singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist has built a devoted following by pairing sound with intention, most notably through his Kind Folk community, which turns shows into shared experiences of kindness, charity, and collective uplift.
Known for his dynamic live performances, Evans weaves together acoustic guitar, handpan, didgeridoo, beatboxing, and percussion to create a fluid, organic sound that feels both grounded and expansive. His 2025 release The Wild Unknown pushes that vision further, exploring the crossroads of contemporary folk, electronica, and rock, with collaborations from artists like Tristan Prettyman, Dirtwire, and Moontricks.
From sold-out rooms across the U.S. and Europe to stages shared with Crosby &amp; Nash, Grace Potter, Bruce Hornsby, Dirtwire, Trevor Hall, and Railroad Earth, Will Evans continues to build a musical space where connection comes first—and everyone belongs.

Join us for our monthly celebratory night of bluegrass music! Come to listen, come to jam, come to learn. Live music from the Granite House Bluegrass band starting at 8 PM, an easy, led slow bluegrass jam for beginner and intermediate players starting at 7:30, and late night jamming open to all. Banjos, fiddles, guitars, dobros, mandolins, bass, and similar acoustic instruments welcome.

Square Dance with Bugs on a Log&nbsp;Thursday, June 4, Doors at 7:30 PM, Dance 8-10 PM&nbsp;Tickets: $20Join CT’s own stringband with caller Liz Slade for a family-friendly, no experience necessary square dance! All dances will be taught by members of the band. Each dance begins with an inclusive lesson on all the steps- suitable for all ages and ability levels. Snacks and refreshments are available for purchase.

With a wealth of expertise spanning from classical to old-time to bluegrass under their collective belt, Bugs on a Log is a group sculpted from dynamic abundance. The New England-based band marries their spread of music with care, the result an uncommon blend of precision, vitality, and innovation. Audiences describe live performances as moving and mirthful, often stirred to dancing, singing, clapping, and the like.
Composed of Lana Auerbach (fiddle, banjo), Austin Scelzo (fiddle, mandolin, guitar), Jeff Smith (guitar, banjo, mandolin), Malcolm Callagy (cello, fiddle), Jack Corcoran (bass), and Oriana Mack (fiddle), each member is a multi-hyphenate talent and vocalist in their own rite. Their chemistry palpable and compelling, Bugs on a Log is a new outfit full of promise, ever sure to deliver a sweeping alchemy of strings and spirit.

Hattem, exploring how Americans have debated and reinterpreted the meaning of the Revolutionary War for more than 250 years. From the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution to modern political and social movements, the program examines how different generations have reshaped the legacy of the nation’s founding to reflect the issues of their own time. Hattem is an American historian, with interests in early America, the American Revolution, and historical memory. He received his PhD in History at Yale University and has taught at The New School and Knox College. He is the author of&nbsp;The Memory of ’76: The Revolution in American History&nbsp;(Yale University Press, 2024), which was a finalist for the 2025 George Washington Prize, and&nbsp;Past and Prologue: Politics and Memory in the American Revolution&nbsp;(Yale University Press, 2020).
Hattem’s work has been featured or mentioned in&nbsp;The New York Times,&nbsp;TIME&nbsp;magazine,&nbsp;The Smithsonian Magazine,&nbsp;the&nbsp;Washington Post, as well as many other mainstream media publications and outlets. He has served as a historical consultant or contributor for a number of projects and organizations, curated historical exhibitions, appeared in television documentaries, and authenticated and written catalogue essays for historical document auctions. He is currently the Associate Director of the Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute.This event is part of Past, Present, and Pages, a program initiative developed by the Trumbull Library in celebration of America's 250. These programs explore history, literature, music, art, and community stories, highlighting the people, ideas, and events that connect the past to the present.
