Connecticut's Old State House

BAP PACK is an indie hip-hop supergroup of popular CT-born emcees RapOet (seen on Netflix), Tang $auce (heard on NPR’s “Where We Live”), Hydro 8Sixty (of TV’s 106 &amp; Park rap battles), and Klokwize (heard on ESPN-TV, DJ QUIK &amp; SUGA FREE’s “A Little Respect”), who combine their collective creativity and community building efforts with head-nodding classic boom bap sounds and live instruments.
Their debut album “First I Heard…” hit streaming in June 2024, led by the hit single “Oooh!” featuring MICKEY FACTZ. The Connecticut Democracy Center (CTDC) will take part in National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 15 and invite people to Connecticut’s Old State House at 800 Main Street in Hartford between 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to confirm their voting status. Adults at least 17 years old (turning 18 on or before election day) can stop by to register regardless of what town or city they reside. Connecticut residents will need a Connecticut DMV ID (includes driver’s license, learner’s permit and non-driver photo ID) issued by Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.
The CTDC is striving to get every eligible Connecticut resident registered before their next trip to the ballot box on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. National Voter Registration Day serves as a civic rallying cry to raise awareness of the need to ensure every American is #VoteReady to take part in often forgotten “off-year” elections that shape the future of communities across the United States.
Don’t be one of the millions of eligible voters who are unable to cast a ballot because of frustrating stumbling blocks like missed deadlines, outdated information, or easily fixable paperwork problems.
Policy decisions about law enforcement, school curricula, housing, public safety, tax rates, and more, are all decided by local elections. National Voter Registration Day At Connecticut’s Old State House

Growing up on Long Island, Kenn was inspired by such melody-minded acts as Gordon Lightfoot, Simon and Garfunkel, Graham Nash, and Jackson Browne. The KMB enthralls audiences of all sizes, from intimate coffeehouses to the stages of venues as demanding as the famed Bitter End in New York City and the International Festival of Arts and Ideas on the New Haven Green. They feature violin virtuoso and multi instrumentalist Tom Hagymasi and melodic bassist/vocalist Pat Ryan, a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. The group has been together for many years, becoming fast favorites on the outdoor festival scene and often features noted drummer Tido Holtkamp.

Washington &amp; Rochambeau: The Duality of Fighting for Freedom &amp; Slavery Presentation by Dr. Anthony Martin, Central Connecticut State University, examining the contradictions in Washington and Rochambeau as military leaders fighting for freedom, and as enslavers.
Guided Outdoor Walking Tour exploring Hartford’s and Connecticut’s Revolutionary War history
Mount Vernon Resources for Teaching about Washington and Slavery Presentation by Brenda Haenchen, George Washington Teacher Institute 250 Ambassador, who will share an array of classroom-ready resources from Mount Vernon and the George Washington Teacher Institute, including primary sources and lesson plans developed by teachers across the country.
A Visit to Museum of Connecticut History to see Connecticut’s Revolution, the new exhibit that examines our state’s role in the founding of the United States and showcases treasures from the Connecticut State Library’s rich collections.
PARKING: Parking at State House Square Parking Garage, located at 75 Market Street, costs a maximum of $10 with validation from Connecticut’s Old State House. Metered street parking is available. Free on-street parking is available after 6 pm and on weekends. Please follow posted parking instructions.

Thomasina Levy, CT State Troubadour (05/06), is an award-winning songwriter, poet, and internationally recognized mountain dulcimer player whose performances weave together the best of traditional and contemporary folk music. She is a popular virtual workshop leader whose workshops frequently sell out. Her music has been aired in over twenty countries across the globe. Described as a charismatic performer, she touches audiences with a simplicity, humanity, and strength drawn from the deep roots of the folk tradition. Parallel Universe, her latest full length album, was co-produced with Grammy winning cellist David Darling and is on the Hearts of Space Records label. This instrumental album received a Silver Medal from the Global Music Awards in December 2018, as well as the 2019 NAMA Award for Best Song of the Year. How do you help fourth graders, teens, and out-of-state visitors find meaning in the same museum object?
Join us for a talk and hands-on activities that will unlock the stories hidden in one of Connecticut’s most remarkable treasures by looking at it through a variety of lenses. We’ll explore Gilbert Stuart’s 1801 portrait of George Washington, commissioned by Connecticut’s General Assembly in the months following Washington’s death. Using entry points such as conservation, stewardship, artistic ambition, Connecticut’s ties to Washington, and the full complexity of Washington as a historical figure, this session will find ways to help visitors uncover stories embedded in museum objects.
Whether you work with elementary school groups or seasoned art and history enthusiasts, this session will give you practical, flexible tools for turning any object into a conversation — and any visitor into someone who leaves wanting to know more.

It’s time for some sweet competition! Connecticut’s Old State House is pleased to host its 5th Annual Election Cake Bake Off. Connecticut pastry chefs and bakers will go whisk to whisk to have their confection crowned the official Connecticut Election Cake of 2026.
Election Day in Connecticut once combined voting with parties, libations, parades, and cake! Stores sold special Election Cake ingredients to women who transformed them into spice cakes to serve to the crowds gathered to celebrate voting at the State House and other sites. Help us revive this long-lost Connecticut tradition! “Election Day Cakes are a great Connecticut tradition—and a sweet reminder that voting is something to celebrate with both pride and community spirit,” says Stephanie Thomas, Secretary of the State. “I’m especially excited to join our Kid Governor and Cabinet. Their passion for civic engagement and cake judging skills make them the perfect partners for this delicious celebration.”
Connecticut’s Old State House has invited professional pastry chefs and bakers to create the official Connecticut Election Cake for 2026. Each competitor is challenged to create a delectable, non-partisan, election-themed cake that inspires voters and celebrates American democracy.
Bring a date or bring the family and help our panel of judges vote on presentation, creativity, and taste!.
