Ann Delabre, Neighbor

Ann Delabre is a seasoned communicator and journalist. In her role as community outreach coordinator in charge of communications for Harbor House-Kankakee County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (the only domestic violence shelter serving primarily residents of Kankakee and Iroquois counties along with many bordering communities in Will County), she makes a valid case for serious "cause journalism." In this case, the focus is on ending violence against women and educating people about the insidious nature of domestic violence. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.
