In this relaxing four-week series we’ll paint a variety of vibrant garden flowers and summer blooms, exploring loose watercolor techniques that bring petals, color, and light to life.
Each week we’ll create a new garden-inspired painting, learning how to paint soft petals, layered colors, and expressive backgrounds. This class is perfect for beginners as well as experienced painters who want to enjoy a creative summer morning.

Instructor: Joseph Rogine
These classes are designed for both&nbsp;beginning to advanced students&nbsp;who want to sharpen their skills in drawing. I have taught students for over 25 years who have never picked up a pencil to draw to those who have been quite advanced.
It is an academic course, (academic being defined as that which can be taught). Drawings are created by copying master drawings, simple to complex still-life objects and classical plaster casts. The student usually begins by copying a master drawing that is supplied to them.
All students start out using graphite pencils with grades of 2H HB 2B. The capabilities and limitations of drawing materials and drawing instruments are discussed at length along with their proper handling. Classes are essentially about learning how to see nature and the world as an artist sees it, through the language and medium of drawing.
The student’s eye will gradually become trained and sensitive on how to compose a layout on the page, assessing proportion, elementary perspective, gauge angles, identify shapes, access the degree of curvature of forms, locate hidden movements and linear rhythms, the structure and modeling of form and the study of light and shade. This opens a whole new world towards a visual literacy that was very common in school curricula 100 to 150 years ago.
Depending on a students’ progress and particular interest repeat students are free to experiment with various drawing mediums like charcoal, pastel pencil, pen and ink etc., along with the drawing surfaces applicable to their chosen medium.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ocartistsguild.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Joe-Rogine-supply-list-2023.pdf" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Joseph Rogine supply list 2024.</a>

From saucers to superheroes and anything in between, the subject matter is your selection !!! Utilize your own photo reference material, or borrow from the instructor. This class is for teens who enjoy making art but need guidance with drawing skills, use of materials, color choices and composition. The principles of design, composition, value are learned using the traditional art materials of various pencils, watercolor, acrylic and pastel… or a combination of medium. Students should bring their own materials and their creativity, with a willingness to experiment with new ideas and/or new materials. If a beginner artist, bring a sketch pad (10×12), drawing pencils and a kneaded rubber eraser. To encourage growth as an artist, it is helpful to this instructor if for the first few sessions, students bring in a few samples of their art, to initiate a discussion about their learning goals.

Hello members,
My new class is starting, and I will continue to set up a still-life, and instruct students with their own projects, but . . .Ever get frustrated with a watercolor you just can’t get right?&nbsp; Been there, done that.&nbsp; Some time ago I did a portrait of a niece in watercolor.&nbsp; Loved the tilt of her head and the flowers in her hair (she was a bridesmaid I think); but at that time I could not achieve the softness of her face in paint.&nbsp; So, I went over the entire work with pastels, which are soft and blend beautifully.&nbsp; Join me in class, beginning April 1, 3:30 – 5:30, for 8 weeks.&nbsp; $160 members, $200 for non-members.&nbsp; I will supply the pastels.&nbsp; Doesn’t have to be a portrait that you want to enhance, could be landscape, still-life or abstract.&nbsp; So much fun to get messy with your materials.

Join artist Leona Lavone – “Artsy Art Bucket” for a fun and expressive Pen &amp; Ink Workshop where we will explore the beauty of line, texture, and simple watercolor accents.
In this relaxed class, students will learn how to use dip pens or fountain pens with ink to create lively sketches and expressive details. We will practice line work, shading techniques, and ways to combine ink drawing with watercolor for beautiful, finished pieces.
This workshop is perfect for beginners as well as experienced artists who would like to loosen up their drawing style and try something new.

The Guild requests a $3 donation to the Guild at each session from each person who attends the session.
We take turns around the circle singing songs and maybe singing or playing along. We sing folk songs, pop songs, and hymns, and sometimes we have an improvised music jam. The only rule is that it’s all acoustic, with no amplifiers or microphones. Everyone is welcome to take a turn in the circle, or just to listen. If you come just to listen, feel free to bring a quiet activity such as sketching or reading.
