Whitnall High School Principal (Year 3)

Education: Marquette University, BA (English/English Education); Cardinal Stritch University, MEL (Educational Leadership)
Leadership Experience: I began my teaching career at Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wisconsin, where I taught English as a second language to Russian students as well as American Literature and Culture and Creative Writing. I then served as an English teacher at South Milwaukee High School, where I taught 10th, 11th, and 12th grade English, Creative Writing, and Composition for Our Times and served as the school newspaper advisor, forensics coach, and freshman baseball coach. I was also afforded the opportunity to serve as the K-12 Language Arts coordinator for the School District of South Milwaukee for three years, an experience which provided me with a solid background in curriculum and common assessment development and implementation, the integration of writing across the content areas, and the articulation of local learning targets aligned to Wisconsin State Standards. I was then afforded the opportunity to serve as an assistant principal at Waukesha West High School for three years as well as Waukesha North High School for one and one half years. I served as principal of Waukesha North High School for the second semester of the 2009-09 school year.
Leadership Activities: As a result of working with some of the best and brightest educators and leaders in the state of Wisconsin, I have been granted a number of opportunities to serve beyond the walls of the high school as well. Aside from serving extensively on State and local committees, I have presented at a number of conferences on topics such as Got Writing? How to Assess for Student Learning and Beyond (WASCD, 2007), Professional Development that Really Works (AWSA, 2006), Making the Most of your SRO/Administration Relationship (AWSA/WSROA, 2006). I have been granted and am currently serving as an adjunct staff member at the graduate level in the school of education at Cardinal Stritch University, and I have also facilitated and taught a number of courses through Alverno College, focused on assessment strategies and current best practices in grading.
