The 2011-12 school year marks my 14th year as a resident of Urbandale and my 30th year in education in Iowa.  After stints in Buffalo Center and Nevada, my wife, Patty, and I were both fortunate enough to secure positions with the Urbandale School District in 1998.  We've been in town ever since.  We raised two boys here, Casey and Kirby, who have grown up in Urbandale, graduated from Urbandale High School, and, in general, have benefited a great deal from the lifestyle the community and schools of Urbandale offer our residents.

I hope to blog about a variety of topics though it's likely that whatever subject is addressed, you'll experience a recurring theme of "the impact of education," or "the role of education."  You may simply get an educator's point of view on current questions or issues.  I'm not the superintendent or the school board, and I won't pretend to be the "final word" on educational rhetoric in Urbandale or Iowa.  I am passionate about the role of schools for creating an educated, skilled work force and how your school should contribute to the larger system for a developed, civilized society.
