The Chorister Academy at Augustus is one of the best ways in the Philadelphia region to provide your child with a tuition-free, world-class music education.
Our highly-regarded chorister program provides children and youth ages 7 - 17 with outstanding professional choral training, music theory instruction, leadership development, choir camps and trips. No previous musical experience is required, only an eagerness to learn and the ability to match pitch.
The Chorister Academy is open to families of all faith backgrounds and walks of life. Choristers, through their shared pursuit of musical excellence, develop focus, empathy, and teamwork skills as they build lasting friendships along the way.
During the academic year, choristers rehearse on Thursday afternoons from 4:00-5:30 and on Sunday mornings at 9:30, before the 10:30 service of Holy Communion. Choristers are trained to sing on a professional level and join adults in the Augustus Parish Choir to form a cohesive intergenerational choir. The choir sings a broad range of choral repertoire from the 16th century to present day.
We accept new students throughout the year but encourage families to register for the upcoming fall season, if possible. Join us for a special presentation on the recent historical analysis and research on the various markings carved into the woodwork of Historic Old Trappe Church.&nbsp; Special Guest presenters Beth Houting, Executive Director at Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center, and Scott Houting, Curator and Executive Director of the Peter Wentz Farmstead, will present their findings on the names, dates, and various other markings peppered throughout the church as well as the context and historical significance.&nbsp; Come discover the untold stories of Old Trappe Church and a rather unique aspect to this historical building.&nbsp; The presentation and luncheon will follow the 10:30 AM service.&nbsp; All are welcome - Hope to see you there!

Women of the ELCA (WELCA) is a national women’s organization that supports the church in a variety of ways and through a plethora of activities. Through various program areas, Women of the ELCA’s community of women provide services in their churches, communities, and even the world. We engage in ministry, take action through advocacy, promote healing and wholeness, and we support one another in our callings. At Augustus in Trappe, Pa, we meet monthly to plan our activities. Some of their events include quilting for Lutheran World Relief, support of global missionaries, Bible Studies, knitting and crocheting group, provide receptions for various church activities, supply coffee hours, social events, and “Ladies Night Out” events. They are also open to new programs. We would love for you to join us and know us better. All are welcome.

The Augustus Handbell Choir provides participants with a unique musical experience. Ringers are assigned a specific number of bells and rely on one another to present a complete musical composition.

Previous musical experience isn’t required. Ringers learn to read music, develop rhythm skills, and increase coordination along the way. The process is creative and fun with ringers learning several techniques that produce a variety of musical effects. In addition, handbell ringing brings people of all ages and backgrounds together to foster camaraderie and a shared purpose.

The Augustus Handbell Choir provides special music throughout the year and rehearses on Thursday evenings at 6:00. The handbell choir is open to youth and adults. The Augustus community worships in the Lutheran tradition, with a strong emphasis on preaching, hymn-singing, and choral music. The Augustus Parish Choir sings weekly for the 10:30 Sunday morning service of Holy Communion during the academic year and leads worship for additional services during the Christmas and Easter seasons.

The choir includes section leaders and experienced volunteer singers. Choristers from the Chorister Academy at Augustus are trained to sing on a professional level and join these adults to form a cohesive intergenerational choir. The choir’s repertoire embraces music from many different styles and school of composition, ranging from the 16th century to present day.

Sunday, September 20th is Community Day at the John James Audubon Center. Everyone is invited to enjoy food, drinks, and music as we celebrate cultural connections to nature, fall migration, and birds’ unique ability to unite us all.
Festivities will include traditional Mexican folk dance, classical Indian dance, activities for kids, bird-themed facepainting and henna tattoos, food trucks, local breweries, canoeing, and more!
This year’s Community Day will also coincide with our new fall/winter art exhibit. Tree of Life is a solo exhibition by Natessa Amin featuring bird-inspired artworks from her Split Inheritance series. Large full-body mounts include a Kamchatka Russian brown bear diorama by Bob’s Wildlife Taxidermy, featuring two bears on a custom base, a European brown bear taken in Romania, an additional brown bear, musk ox, Dall sheep, lion, African Limpopo bushbuck, mountain lion, red duiker, baboon, and badger. Bear material also includes a tagged tanned black bear hide and black bear taxidermy rug.
African game makes up a substantial portion of the auction. Species include Cape buffalo, sable antelope, greater and lesser kudu, gemsbok, Beisa oryx, waterbuck, impala, nyala, roan antelope, gerenuk, Grant’s gazelle, Soemmering’s gazelle, red hartebeest, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, black and blue wildebeest, blesbok, springbok, bushbuck, reedbuck, dik-dik, steenbok, duiker, puku, warthog, zebra, hyena, and lion. The catalog also includes a giraffe skull and a fiberglass rhino shoulder mount.
North American game includes an Alaskan brown bear, American bison, western buffalo, elk, pronghorn antelope, mountain lion, mule deer, and numerous whitetail deer mounts, including 8-, 10-, and 11-point examples. Additional international mountain and game species include Himalayan tahr, chamois, Argali, Siberian ibex, Scandinavian caribou, Mongolian gazelle, red stag, and red deer.
Other sporting material includes mounted antler and skull trophies, a mounted largemouth bass, and an alligator hide rug with mounted head. One African puku shoulder mount is specifically identified in the catalog with Werner Taxidermy.
This auction presents a concentrated collection of taxidermy ranging from large full-body bear and lion displays to African plains game, deer, elk, mountain species, hides, skulls, and trophy mounts.
