The Buena Vista Audubon Society was chartered in 1951 as the coastal North San Diego County chapter of the National Audubon Society.

Our nature center, built in 1988, is adjacent to the 220-acre Buena Vista Lagoon Ecological Reserve, and houses a series of interpretive displays featuring local wildlife. The grounds include a native plant demonstration garden, and a short interpretive trail.

A primary focus for BVAS is our nature education program for children: over 3,000 local school children participate in free class outings to the Nature Center each year. We also offer nature educational experiences for the community, including regular birding field trips, and special nature programs, generally at no charge to the public.
