Brooksfield School is hosting an Open House on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 10 to 11:30am. &nbsp;Come see our new state of the art location. &nbsp;Brooksfield School is a Montessori School dedicated to the arts and the outdoors and serves children ages 2-6yrs. &nbsp;We also offer a before and after care program with local FCPS schools as well as a 10 week summer camp program for children ages 3-10years. &nbsp;Families are invited to stop by, visit our classrooms, learn about our programs and meet some of our staff. &nbsp;Brooksfield is now enrolling for Fall. 2026 in all of our programs. &nbsp;To RSVP please email sarah@brooksfieldschool.org. &nbsp;

Alexandria Art Show & Spring Craft Fair ~ Mother's Day Celebration @ John Carlyle Square

Bring your family and friends to the Purcellville Music and Arts Festival on Saturday, April 25 from noon to 7 p.m. rain or shine. This free, family-friendly event will be held at Fireman’s Field Park and inside the Bush Tabernacle Skating Rink at 250 South Nursery Avenue.

Enjoy a full day of live music and performances across multiple stages, along with an art exhibit, games, chalk art, and a variety of interactive activities. Browse offerings from local vendors featuring handcrafted goods, food, beverages, and more. There will be fun for all ages, including face painting, glitter tattoos, sidewalk chalk art, and t-shirt or tote bag decorating. Local non-profits will also be on-site sharing information and resources. Special activities will highlight and celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. 
Inside the Bush Tabernacle Skating Rink—transformed into the Art Hall—you’ll find more than 30 works of art, live performances, art demonstrations, and hands-on activities including quilt square decorating and an Instrument Petting Zoo. Be sure to pick up a festival scavenger hunt booklet and complete it for a chance to win a prize!

Crooked Steeple Literary Festival welcomes author Jeffrey Dale Lofton to close their seasonJoin the Crooked Steeple Literary Festival at Falls Church Presbyterian for the last event of their 2025-2026 season, featuring local author Jeffrey Dale Lofton!
Lofton will discuss his 2023 debut novel Red Clay Suzie, a coming-of-age story inspired by his own childhood in Georgia. It follows a gay, disabled boy named Philbet as he navigates life on the margins of his Deep South community, facing prejudice as well as self-doubt.
A book signing will follow the talk, with Bards Alley providing copies on site for purchase, and attendees can enjoy light refreshments. Registration is free with an optional donation to support future seasons of the Crooked Steeple Literary Festival.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Red Clay Suzie go to support the important work of The Trevor Project and the Born This Way Foundation.
He was the Pat Conroy Literary Center Spring 2024 Writer-in-Residence. Red Clay Suzie was Longlisted for The Center for Fiction 2023 First Novel Prize, named an Indie Next Pick by the American Booksellers Association, and was awarded the Seven Hills Literary Prize for Fiction.
