JCCMW Women’s Health Summit: Featuring Jenn Sherman and Lindsay Pinchuk

This event is FREE with suggested donationWhat does it mean to carry history with you—and to build a life beyond it?
The Survivors Among Us exhibit brings the stories of Holocaust survivors served by Westchester Jewish Community Services into focus through striking portraits and deeply personal narratives. Each photograph offers more than a glimpse into the life of a survivor; together, the portraits preserve memories and legacies that deserve to be seen, heard, and remembered.
The exhibit invites us to look beyond the historical record and connect with the individuals behind it—people who endured unimaginable hardship and went on to build lives, raise families, and strengthen their communities.
This free program will also feature a speaker from the WJCS survivor community, Ernest Brod, providing an opportunity to connect with this history through the voice of someone who lived it. As the number of Holocaust survivors continues to decline, preserving and sharing their stories has never been more meaningful.Ernest Brod was born in 1938 in Vienna, Austria, just as the Nazis invaded. His father was among the first Jews killed, and his four-year-old brother was sent on a Kindertransport to England. Through a series of near miracles, he and his mother avoided a concentration camp, made their way to Lisbon, Portugal, and reached Ellis Island in March 1941. Ernie tells the story of his childhood as a refugee in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, of meeting his brother when he was 21, and of the two becoming remarkably close, while separated by an ocean.
