Oakland Youth Orchestras (OYO) proudly presents its Spring Concert, the final concert of OYO’s 51st season. This culminating performance features all four OYO ensembles and reflects the artistic growth, dedication, and musical excellence fostered throughout the season.
The program opens with the Studio String Orchestra, offering a varied selection that includes scenes from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, In Paradisum from Fauré’s Requiem in D Minor, and music from The Incredibles 2. The String Orchestra follows with an expressive and stylistically diverse program featuring Soon Hee Newbold’s The Iliad, Elgar’s Nimrod variation, Copland’s Hoedown, and Blaze of Metal by Bryan Sanguinito.
The Philharmonia Orchestra highlights the vitality of the Big Band tradition with selections such as Tico‑Tico, Irving Fine’s Blue Towers, classic Big Band arrangements by Calvin Custer, and a medley of works by Duke Ellington. The evening concludes with the Symphony Orchestra, presenting a vibrant program that includes Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, selections from Bizet’s Carmen Suites, and Chabrier’s España.
Together, these performances showcase a broad spectrum of orchestral repertoire and underscore OYO’s commitment to musical education, artistic excellence, and community enrichment.

<h3>Rochester Community Concert Band Marks 10th Anniversary Season with “An American Tapestry”</h3>
Rochester, MI — In a celebration of artistry, community, and national heritage, the Rochester Community Concert Band (RCCB) proudly presents An American Tapestry on Tuesday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Varner Recital Hall (371 Varner Drive) on the campus of Oakland University. Free parking is available in nearby lots, including 36, 26, and 24. Admission is free, and donations are warmly welcomed.
Under the direction of conductor Paul F. DeRubeis, the RCCB invites audiences to experience an evening of musical storytelling that honors both its 10th Anniversary Season and the spirit of America’s 250th Anniversary.&nbsp;
Gracefully weaving together tradition and innovation, this commemorative program showcases the depth and diversity of the American musical landscape. Featured bass clarinet soloist Colin Mile brings brilliance and lyricism to the Rondo movement of Concerto per Clarinetto by Michele Mangani. The evening also highlights the highly anticipated world premiere of Hold Fast by Andrew David Perkins, a work commissioned by the RCCB to mark this milestone season.
Audiences will also be treated to a rich array of repertoire, including The Old Boatman by Florence Price, An American Spectacular by Chris Sharp, and the rousing march The National Game by John Philip Sousa—a vibrant nod to America’s enduring traditions.
The RCCB is honored to welcome guest conductor Dr. Pamela Klena, Associate Professor of Music at Oakland University, who will lead a poignant performance of A Movement for Rosa by Mark Camphouse. Adding to the evening’s sense of community and collaboration, RCCB member Byron Coulter will conduct the beloved wind band classic Mannin Veen by Haydn Wood.
The program concludes with Glenn Miller in Concert, a dazzling tribute to the legendary Glenn Miller, celebrating the timeless elegance and energy of his music.
The Rochester Community Concert Band is a volunteer ensemble of passionate musicians dedicated to enriching the cultural fabric of the community through free, high-quality performances and engaging programming.
