 AI" on Friday, June 5 at 7:00 pm at Christ Congregation, 50
 Walnut Lane, Princeton, NJ 08540 (across the street from
 Princeton High School). There is plenty of free parking in a
 small lot at the rear of the church, as well as at the High
 School. There will be a Q+A session following the lecture.&nbsp;
The Reverend Dawrell Rich, Ph.D., is a pastor-scholar whose work is at the intersection of religion, urban life, and&nbsp;environmental&nbsp;justice. He serves as pastor of the River of Life Christian Church in Elizabethport, New Jersey, and chaplainat Church Farm School in Exton, Pennsylvania, where he guides the spiritual life of the community and mentors emerging leaders. Dr. Rich holds a PhD in Religion, Society, and Ecology from Drew University. His dissertation, Bridging A Gap: The&nbsp;Role of African American Churches in Urban&nbsp;Environmental&nbsp;Justice, explores how congregations&nbsp;can serve as agents of ecological stewardship, community sustainability, and public health in rapidly changing urban contexts.&nbsp;




Dr. Rich’s scholarship has been presented nationally and internationally at academic and religious gatherings, including the Oxford University Symposium on Religious Studies, the Urban Futures Symposium in Switzerland, and conferences hosted by the American Academy of Religion and the Association for the Sociology of Religion. Dr. Rich’s leadership and scholarship have been recognized through numerous honors. Most recently, he was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. College of Ministers and Laity Collegium of Scholars at Morehouse College, a distinction that honors his contributions to ministry, scholarship, and public life. He is a member of the American Academy of Religion, the Association for the Sociology of Religion, and the International Society for the Study of Religion, Nature, and Culture.&nbsp; Standing in the historic tradition of pastor-scholars who join rigorous intellectual inquiry with prophetic ministry, Dr. Rich seeks to cultivate communities of faith that embody justice, ecological responsibility, and spiritual renewal.&nbsp;Registration required. Public institutions function best when they operate with transparency, accountability, and respect for the communities they serve. Unfortunately, many parents in the West Windsor-Plainsboro community are increasingly asking whether those values are truly being upheld by district leadership. Last Thursday, I submitted a series of direct questions to Superintendent and Board President regarding athletics, coaching decisions, communication practices, public accountability, and the use of taxpayer-funded resources. These were not hostile questions. They were reasonable questions from a taxpayer and parent seeking transparency from a public school district funded by the community. Instead of receiving direct answers, parents continue to encounter redirection, incomplete responses, or silence. That pattern raises a larger question: why is district leadership so reluctant to provide straightforward information to the public? One issue that deserves clarification involves representations regarding administrative experience abroad. Community members were led to believe that Ms. Cincotta held an administrative role internationally. However, publicly available information appears to indicate that her role was as a music teacher at American schools in Bolivia and Paraguay, not as a school administrator. If there is additional context or experience that has not been publicly explained, then district leadership should simply clarify it openly and transparently. Transparency matters because credibility matters. Parents are also being told to search independently for information regarding taxpayer spending “between High School North and High School&nbsp; South,” while at the same time district employees such as Kia Bergman, the district’s record keeper, are paid with taxpayer dollars specifically to maintain and provide access to public records. Taxpayers should not be made to feel as though requesting information from their own school district is an inconvenience or a burden. Public information belongs to the public. When administrations withhold information, avoid direct answers, or create unnecessary obstacles to transparency, it naturally leads parents to question what exactly is being protected. If there is nothing improper occurring, then openness should not be difficult. The issue here is larger than athletics, personnel decisions, or one set of emails. The issue is whether the community can trust that its school leadership values openness over insulation, accountability over defensiveness, and honest communication over carefully managed messaging. Parents are not asking for special treatment. They are asking for transparency from public officials whose salaries and departments are funded by taxpayers. That is not unreasonable. <h1>Transparency Should Not Require a Treasure Hunt</h1>

Public school districts frequently speak about transparency, community partnership, and accountability. But transparency is not measured by slogans at Board of Education meetings or carefully crafted public statements. Transparency is measured by how administrators respond when taxpayers and parents ask direct questions.
Recently, I contacted district administration seeking answers regarding athletic programs, facility allocation, coaching decisions, and capital spending within the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District. The questions were straightforward:
How much money has been invested in capital projects at each high school since 2018? How are athletic resources allocated between schools? What oversight exists for coaching and athletic program decisions? What systems ensure parent concerns are actually addressed?
The response I received from Ms. Cincotta was essentially: go find it in the school minutes.
Think about that for a moment.
Taxpayers fund the salaries of administrators, business offices, communications departments, and records personnel. Yet when a parent asks for basic information regarding public spending and district decision-making, the response is to independently search through years of Board of Education minutes.
That is not transparency. That is deflection.
During my conversation with district administration, repeated references were made to the differing “needs” of each school as justification for decisions and spending priorities. However, when asked to provide specific examples or explain the rationale behind those priorities, no meaningful answers were given.
Parents deserve more than vague talking points.
If one school receives different treatment, different investments, or different athletic support than another, the community has a right to understand why. Public institutions should be able to clearly explain how decisions are made, how resources are distributed, and how priorities are established.
The concerns extend beyond facilities and finances.
Questions regarding the wrestling program and coaching stability also remain unanswered. Parents still do not know:
<ul><li>Whether a wrestling coach is being hired</li><li>What timeline exists for that process</li><li>Whether maintaining the program is even considered a district priority</li><li>What standards are used to evaluate coaches</li><li>How program stability factors into staffing decisions</li></ul>
These are not unreasonable questions. They are fundamental questions about leadership, accountability, and student programs.
Equally troubling is the absence of a clear process for handling unresolved parent concerns. What systems exist to ensure complaints are tracked to completion? Who is responsible for follow-through? What oversight mechanisms exist when concerns are repeatedly raised without resolution? Mr. Aderhold and his administration have been ignoring these questions for the last 10 days. There is no communication with the community, no accountability and no interest to engage in a respectful conversation. Silence, that is all I have received from Aderhold and the BOE. Why? What are they hiding?&nbsp;
These questions matter because public trust matters.
School districts should welcome accountability, not avoid it. Parents should not feel dismissed for asking questions about programs funded by their taxes and attended by their children. Administrators should not treat requests for transparency as inconveniences, nor should parents be told to comb through years of meeting minutes to obtain answers that district leadership should be able to provide directly.
Community members are not asking for favors. We are asking for information, clarity, and accountability from public officials entrusted with managing public resources.
Transparency should not require a treasure hunt through years of meeting minutes. It should be part of the job.
