Dave Cortese, Neighbor

I am the Santa Clara County Supervisor representing District 3, which covers Milpitas and parts of Sunnyvale and East and North San Jose and Alviso. Before being elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2008, I served eight years on the San Jose City council, including two years as vice mayor.  From 1992 to 2000, I served on the East Side Union High School District Board of Education. 

I grew up in San Jose as part a a family that has been active in civic, cultural and business activities for generations. I am married to Patti, also a community leader, and we have four children.  My strong roots and love for the counyt fuel my passion for public service.

I have devoted much of my time in office toward creating public policy and programming to reduce youth crime, neighborhood poverty and the disenfranchisement of<br>communities of color. As vice chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, I have also focused on projects that serve the transportation needs of Santa Clara County residents.
