Watchung Booksellers: The Kids’ Room

Watchung Booksellers welcomes MSU&nbsp;English Professor David Galef for the release of his latest book of short stories, <a href="https://watchungbooksellers.com/events/6327420261105" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Tradeoffs</a>. He'll be in conversation with journalist Gary Krist on Thursday, Nov 5 at 7:00 p.m.
Tradeoffs asks, "what if your whole life is a series of tradeoffs-until the final trade?" Bursting with inventiveness, David Galef's newest collection of stories shifts between the long and short of things.
Tickets are $5 and include a 10% discount on the book purchased at the event. Students may enter without charge by emailing events@watchungbooksellers.com. For tickets visit <a href="https://watchungbooksellers.com/events" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">watchungbooksellers.com.</a>

Echo Lake Country Club

Come One, Come All! Save the Date! On Saturday, November 7, The Friends of Music at St. Paul’s Church, together with St. Paul's esteemed Music Director Mark Hyczko (above photo), invite you to an elegant evening of music, refreshment and silent auction at the Echo Lake Country Club, 515 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, NJ. The evening begins at 6:00 PM with a cocktail hour, followed by a sumptuous dinner, entertainment, and the silent auction from 7:00 to 10:00 PM.
Tickets are $200 per guest and include an open bar during the cocktail hour, together with an Echo-catered three-course buffet dinner that includes a variety of luscious choices, plus coffee, tea and dessert.
GALA dinner entrés include Short Ribs of Beef Marsala, Chicken Saltimbocca, Seared Salmon, and (especially for our vegetarians) Trofie Pesto Pasta. These plus local organic greens and La Ratté fingerling potatoes.
Please purchase your tickets at the Steeple Concerts website, <a href="https://www.steepleconcerts.org" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">www.steepleconcerts.org</a>, where you can also learn more about this bountiful event. All proceeds support the Steeple Concerts series at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (Westfield) – now in its 8th season -- sponsored by the Friends of Music at St. Paul’s.
You can also donate items or services to the silent auction. Maybe you have a vintage item or painting that no longer suits your taste or your lifestyle but nevertheless has value. Feel free to donate this item to the silent auction by Thursday, November 5. Last year’s auction, for example, featured an LL Bean vintage lady’s bicycle. Or maybe you are a dog walker, a personal chef, a local business, or the like. You can widen your presence and strengthen your brand in our community by donating your service. To make your donation, please email Carol Dunham at <a href="mailto:carolesq@gmail.com">carolesq@gmail.com</a>
or call St. Paul’s parish office at (908) 232-8506 X10, on or before Thursday, November 5.
The GALA’s musical offering on November 7 (a mini concert!) will, no doubt, exceed all expectations. FOM at St. Paul’s have engaged a world-class ensemble, Lyrica Chamber Music (HQ Chatham, NJ), to entertain you during the GALA. Lyrica brings musicians of national and international stature to perform in an intimate, local and welcoming setting. On GALA night, they will offer a mix of chamber music pieces in a variety of styles. In addition to a more traditional classical repertoire, the group’s programs include jazz, folk, and ethnic influences. See you at the GALA!

WHEN HEALTHCARE COSTS RISE, WHO GETS LEFT BEHIND?
Join NJPAC's Standing in Solidarity series for Breaking Barriers to Affordable Healthcare, a free community event bringing together healthcare professionals, advocates and community members for an important conversation about healthcare affordability, access and equity.&nbsp; The Standing in Solidarity film series is sponsored by the PSEG Foundation
Why should you attend? Because healthcare challenges don't just affect individuals. They impact our families, neighbors and entire communities. Whether you're navigating healthcare costs, caring for a loved one or simply want to better understand the resources available in New Jersey, this conversation offers valuable insights and an opportunity to ask important questions.
The program features a screening of The Healthcare Divide, a FRONTLINE documentary examining healthcare inequities and how hospitals' pursuit of profits can put care for low-income patients at risk.
Following the film, healthcare and policy experts will explore why healthcare costs continue to rise, what can be done to address affordability and which New Jersey resources can help individuals and families access quality care.
Featured panelists include:
<ul><li>Moderator: Deborah Visconi, President and CEO of Bergen New Bridge Medical Center</li><li>Rochelle Evans, RN, Healthcare Foundation of the Oranges</li><li>Iris Jones, New Jersey Department of Health, Division of Family Health Services</li><li>Dr. Arnold Williams, RWJBarnabas Health Behavioral Health Center in Toms River</li></ul>
In partnership with Dodge Poetry, the evening will open with a special poetry performance by Ray Jane, a Brooklyn-based spoken word artist and author of Black Like That.
Your health matters. Your community matters. Your voice belongs in this conversation.
Join us to become more informed, discover available resources and take part in a meaningful discussion about making healthcare more accessible for everyone.
