Summer Mix, an accessible, entertaining program of dance, combines the old with the new, a visual playlist bringing together favorites from the repertory with a premiere. The mix includes joyful excerpts from the Company’s acclaimed evening-length theatrical dance&nbsp;Encore, which premiered at New York City’s Joyce SoHo in 2007 and has never fallen out of the repertory. Each performance will be followed by a brief conversation with the Company, offering audiences the opportunity to engage directly with the dancers and choreographer.

The new work,&nbsp;Flashpoint, was developed during an invitation-only residency at the American Dance Festival in Durham, NC during the summer or 2024.&nbsp;Flashpoint&nbsp;explores the contours of relationships, the push and pull of harmony and strife within our lives, and the lines separating intimacy from violence. The dance traces the contours of relationships, exposing moments that pivot on a dime and ignite into conflict, a metaphor for the tensions and drama playing out in our world.
Like a sultry summer storm, the program moves through darkness and sun, turbulence and clear skies, all anchored by the Company's signature blend of provocative choreography and charismatic performance: virtuosic and pedestrian movement, intimate partnering, a playful musical spirit, and vivid expression.&nbsp;Summer Mix&nbsp;has something for everyone, the program that summer calls for!

ABOUT DANIEL GWIRTZMAN DANCE COMPANY
Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company, known for its optimistic ethos, was formed in 1998. Since its inception, it has demonstrated a commitment to education, operating with the philosophy and programming that everyone can join the dance. Incorporating dance and story into the film medium has been a consistent practice along with creating original programming for the stage. The repertory has earned praise for its humor, musicality, stylistic diversity, and accessibility. The Company’s acclaimed creation,&nbsp;Dance With Us, a free online educational resource, received leadership support from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and is designed to demystify choreography and increase comfort viewing and speaking about dance. The digital resource showcases the Company’s decade-long practice working in the dance for camera genre. Lincoln Center and The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts presented the Company in 2023 during its 25th Anniversary season in a stand-alone program called&nbsp;Everybody Can Dance. In the summer of 2024, DGDC was in residence at the American Dance Festival where it developed its newest evening-length dance,&nbsp;Flashpoint. In 2025, the Company’s AI-themed theater/dance work&nbsp;e-Motion, a collaboration with playwright Saviana Stanescu, made its NYC premiere at La MaMa during the La MaMa Moves! Festival, which&nbsp;Culturebot&nbsp;reviewed as “profoundly chilling,” noting Daniel’s performance as “masterful.” Also in 2025,&nbsp;Framing Ménerbes,&nbsp;a film created by the Company in Provence, premiered in France, followed by its US premiere at the Dolby Screening Room in Manhattan. Since then, the film has screened in theaters in Upstate New York—Binghamton, Ithaca, and Rochester—and in Ann Arbor, MI and Vancouver, WA. The film will screen again in Ithaca this June 17. Other highlights include performances at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, The Kennedy Center, Battery Dance Festival, Fire Island Dance Festival, Bryant Park, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

An early play by Irish playwright&nbsp;Conor McPherson,&nbsp;This Lime Tree Bower&nbsp;was first performed in 1995 and uses three interweaving monologues from young men in a small Irish seaside town to tell a story of coming-of-age, boredom, and crime that will drop audiences into a world they won't ever forget. The cast features&nbsp;James Broderick&nbsp;as Joe,&nbsp;Patrick Perih&nbsp;as Frank, and&nbsp;Forrest Weber&nbsp;as Ray. The show is directed by&nbsp;Christopher Ryan. It is produced by&nbsp;Richie Radici&nbsp;and&nbsp;Patrick Perih.
About the Artists
James Broderick&nbsp;can most recently be seen in Season 2 of the CBS series&nbsp;Elsbeth.&nbsp;Prior to this he appeared in Alma Har’el’s Apple TV series&nbsp;Lady in the Lake&nbsp;opposite Natalie Portman. He will next be seen in the short film&nbsp;Days Ending in Y&nbsp;opposite Raffey Cassidy and Sam Nivola. James studied drama and classics at Brown University and is currently based in New York.
Forrest Weber’s film &amp; TV credits include playing Junior in Netflix’s&nbsp;Black Rabbit,&nbsp;as well as roles on&nbsp;The Blacklist, Law &amp; Order, East New York, Gotham, Unforgettable, The Knick, American Odyssey, Spotlight,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Tater Tot &amp; Patton.&nbsp;He can also be seen in the upcoming films&nbsp;Three People in the Woods, Brother Save Us, Flesh Impact,and an untitled Lionsgate thriller.&nbsp;Theatre credits include&nbsp;This Is Our Youth&nbsp;(Off-Broadway) as well as three shows with the NY Deaf Theatre. Forrest is a Boston University alum and lives in Rockaway Beach with his wife and two dogs.
Patrick Perih&nbsp;is a Brooklyn based actor and producer. He’s played leading&nbsp;roles in 5 of GBG’s 6 shows including&nbsp;Fool for Love, Tape, Bachelorette, Rum &amp; Vodka&nbsp;and GBG original&nbsp;Common Addiction.&nbsp;In addition to his work with GoodBad, Patrick played the lead role in the independent film&nbsp;Rabbit Hole&nbsp;and has appeared in a number of award-winning short films, two of which he produced. Patrick received a minor degree in Drama from Carnegie Mellon University.&nbsp;

The series has offered the theater community information, inspiration and unlimited camaraderie since April 17, 2020. 7/17 - A Bridge Between Cultures: Meet London's Exchange Theatre.&nbsp;In the room:&nbsp;David Furlong, a mixed&nbsp;race Mauritian actor, director, dramaturg and educator, and the Artistic Director and Founder of Exchange Theatre, established in 2006 to champion multilingual voices and cross&nbsp;cultural performance in the UK. Originally focused on bringing lesser known French classic and contemporary works into the London theater consciousness – often doing performances in both languages – Exchange has expanded over the years to incorporate wider aspects of cultural "exchange." David has worked across stage, screen and street theater, building a distinctive practice rooted in his passion about migration, identity and the decolonization of representation, and his work has also touched on non-western storytelling influences (including Indian and Japanese). Theater Resources Unlimited Announces Community Gathering via Zoom: Meet London's Exchange Theatre

Gingold Theatrical Group&nbsp;(David Staller, Artistic Director; Isaiah Josiah, Managing Producer) Due to popular demand,&nbsp;Gingold Theatrical Group&nbsp;is thrilled to announce an additional event in its celebrated Project Shaw series: a&nbsp;special presentation&nbsp;of&nbsp;Noël Coward’s&nbsp;This Was a Man. Remarkably, this marks the first known New York presentation of the play since its original 1926 premiere.

One of Coward’s rarely produced early dramas, This Was a Man explores themes that would come to define much of his work: social performance, morality, jealousy, repression, and the fragility beneath upper-class sophistication. The play follows Edward Churt, a successful painter whose carefully composed world begins to fracture as he confronts his wife Carol’s infidelity. While Edward attempts to maintain an air of elegant detachment, his closest life-long friend becomes determined to force a reckoning that threatens to upend them all.
Sharp, psychologically probing, and surprisingly modern, This Was a Man asks enduring questions about masculinity, emotional repression, and the limits of civility. What happens when good manners become a mask for pain? Is it nobler to ignore betrayal or confront it directly? And what, ultimately, does it mean to be a man?
“The play was first mentioned to me by my godmother Hermione Gingold, for whom we named our company”, says Gingold Artistic Director David Staller. “She had begun her stage career with Noel Coward when they were both children. Writing this play, and its initial rejection, altered the trajectory of his entire life, she explained. We’ve determined to share the play with New York for its first hearing in 100 years!”
This special addition to Project Shaw continues Gingold Theatrical Group’s long-standing commitment to reviving provocative and underappreciated theatrical works that resonate deeply with contemporary audiences. The 21st Season of Project Shaw Continues with Noël Coward’s This Was a Man

Gingold Theatrical Group (David Staller, Artistic Director; Isaiah Josiah, Managing Producer) Due to popular demand, Gingold Theatrical Group is thrilled to announce an additional event in its celebrated Project Shaw series: a special presentation of Noël Coward’s This Was a Man. Remarkably, this marks the first known New York presentation of the play since its original 1926 premiere.
Featuring Tony Award© nominee A.J. Shively (Paradise Square) as Edward Churt, Wesley Taylor (Spongebob Squarepants, Alice By Heart) as Evelyn Bathurst, Jane Bruce (Jagged Little Pill) as Lady Margot Butler, Stella Everett (GIANT, Hulu’s“Not Suitable For Work”) as Carol Churt, Vanessa Kai (KPOP, CW’s"Kung Fu”) as Zoe St. Merryn, and Carman Lacivita as Harry Challoner and Lor Robert Romford (To My Girls, Marvin’s Room). The evening will be directed by GTG’s David Staller.
One of Coward’s rarely produced early dramas, This Was a Man explores themes that would come to define much of his work: social performance, morality, jealousy, repression, and the fragility beneath upper-class sophistication. The play follows Edward Churt, a successful painter whose carefully composed world begins to fracture as he confronts his wife Carol’s infidelity. While Edward attempts to maintain an air of elegant detachment, his closest friend becomes determined to force a reckoning that threatens to upend them all.
Sharp, psychologically probing, and surprisingly modern, This Was a Man asks enduring questions about masculinity, emotional repression, and the limits of civility. What happens when good manners become a mask for pain? Is it nobler to ignore betrayal or confront it directly? And what, ultimately, does it mean to be brave enough to confront oneself and to fully connect to another person?

ABOUT THE BROADWAY MAGIC HOUR
Jim Vines&nbsp;and&nbsp;Carl Mercurio&nbsp;have each been performing magic all their lives, and they met 10 years ago when they were both booked to perform in the same magic-variety show in Coney Island. Jim and Carl became friends and started performing together in venues throughout the tristate area, eventually collaborating on a family magic show, which debuted in 2022 at the North Fork Community Theatre in Long Island.
Fast forward to May 2024, when Jim was on a phone call with Richard Brooks, the head talent booker for the Broadway Comedy Club and Greenwich Village Comedy Club. Rich mentioned that while there were a variety of great magic shows in New York City, he had noticed something was missing—a big family-friendly event that could be enjoyed by kids, parents, friends, and anyone looking for a feel-good outing. Rich suggested that a family magic show in Midtown that brings families together for an unforgettable experience filled with joy, laughter, and wonder could be a hit. Jim told Rich about the family magic show that he and Carl were already performing and mentioned that they had been looking for the perfect venue in which to regularly present the show. Rich was enthusiastic. It was meant to be! In a moment of inspiration, Jim and Carl came up with the name The Broadway Magic Hour. Now it was time to put it on the historic Broadway Comedy Club stage. The NYC debut of the Broadway Magic Hour took place on Saturday, August 3, 2024 - and to everyone's delight, the show quickly sold out. They followed up by adding more dates, and every show had a full house, proving that the city truly needed this show. A few months later, Time Out NY rated The Broadway Magic Hour as one of the Best Off-Broadway Shows for Kids &amp; Families, as well as one of the Best Magic Shows in NYC.

Michael OJ&nbsp;hails from West Haven, Connecticut. He performs at Renaissance Faires all over New England, and he has traveled the world performing his unique blend of magic and comedy. The Battery Dance Festival begins on August 10 with dynamic community workshops led by selected local dance groups, inviting New Yorkers of all ages to connect directly with artists through shared movement and cultural exchange. On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the performances officially begin as the Festival proudly celebrates its legacy as New York City’s longest-running free public dance festival—an unforgettable annual tradition that brings together extraordinary artists and audiences from around the world.

Written in 1904 at the request of&nbsp;W. B. Yeats&nbsp;for the Irish Literary Theatre (later the Abbey Theatre),&nbsp;John Bull's Other Island&nbsp;is a riotous high-action comedy! It remains Shaw's only play set in Ireland and is among his most comedic, insightful, romantic, and rarely seen works. Following the performance, audiences are invited to remain for a lively post-show discussion with artists and scholars exploring the play's historical context, its contemporary relevance, and the continuing dialogue surrounding Irish identity, diaspora, and cultural exchange.
This special event is presented as part of Gingold Theatrical Group's ongoing education and audience enrichment initiatives. Founded in 2006 by David Staller, GTG has carved a permanent niche for the work of George Bernard Shaw within the social and cultural life of New York City, and, through the Project Shaw reading series, made history in 2009 as the first company ever to present performances of every one of Shaw's 65 plays (including full-length works, one-acts and sketches). GTG brings together performers, critics, students, academics and the general public with the opportunity to explore and perform theatrical work inspired by the humanitarian and activist values that Shaw championed. All comedies, these plays boldly exhibit the insight, wit, passion and all-encompassing socio-political focus that distinguished Shaw as one of the most inventive and incisive writers of all time.

The American Irish Historical Society&nbsp;(AIHS) was founded in Boston in 1897 to document, commemorate, and interrogate the story of the Irish in America. In the years since, it has become a national center of scholarship, conversation, and culture. Vangeline Theater/New York Butoh Institute has partnered with ELF and the legendary New York artist Machine Dazzle to create MAN WOMAN, a collaboration between Butoh dancers Akihito Ichihara (Sankai Juku) and Vangeline.

Ichihara and Vangeline have developed MAN WOMAN during New York residencies at the New York Butoh Institute, Chelsea Factory, Monira Foundation, and Mercury Store in 2024.

Machine Dazzle has created original costumes for this 60-minute piece and Ray Barragan Sweeten has composed the music.

MAN WOMAN is a 60-minute interdisciplinary Butoh duet about the search for intimacy and the complexities of human connection. Choreographed and performed by acclaimed Butoh artists Akihito Ichihara (Japan) and Vangeline (U.S.), the work draws inspiration from the seminal 1960 photo book Man and Woman by Japanese photographer Eikoh Hosoe, which featured Tatsumi Hijikata—the founder of Butoh—and his wife, Motofuji.
 
Ichihara and Vangeline each come from different Butoh backgrounds; Ichihara from Sankai Juku, or what could be considered “classical” Butoh, while Vangeline’s 20 years of Butoh expertise was informed by her prior experience as a jazz and burlesque dancer. The artists imagine this encounter as cultural cross-pollination: the creation of something new and original choreographically, challenging aesthetic expectations and carrying Butoh into the 21st century.

Unforgotten: Butoh for 9/11&nbsp;is an ensemble work commemorating the victims of 9/11. The 60-minute Butoh dance piece will be choreographed by&nbsp;Vangeline&nbsp;and be performed by an ensemble of several dancers with live musical accompaniment by renowned cellist&nbsp;Katinka Kleijn.

Every year for the past two decades, Vangeline Theater has held public 9/11 commemorative performances in New York. For the past ten years, we have performed these offerings in Times Square, with a special dedication for the firefighters, policemen, and women who lost their lives on 9/11. Our annual performances in Times Square on 9/11 hold deep symbolic and cultural significance. The act of performing Butoh—a meditative, expressive dance form—on such a solemn occasion creates a space for collective mourning, remembrance, and healing. Given Times Square’s status as a global landmark and cultural epicenter, the performances serve as a poignant tribute to the victims of 9/11, while also offering an artistic reflection on resilience and loss.
This program is made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and the New York Department of Cultural Affairs, and the City Council.

Hailed by&nbsp;The New York Times&nbsp;as “a player of formidable expressive gifts,” and “Chicago’s first lady of the cello” by&nbsp;Time Out Magazine, cellist&nbsp;Katinka Kleijn&nbsp;enjoys a genre-defying, interdisciplinary career. Classically trained, she has cultivated an exploratory, interactive practice at the fertile intersection of improvisation, composition, performance art and collaboration.&nbsp;

Kleijn has collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Christoph Eschenbach, Richard Goode, Lynn Harrell, Jeremy Denk, Stefan Jackiw, and the Marlboro Music Festival. She has taught at DePaul School of Music, Notre Dame University, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and as Artist-in-Residence and Guest Lecturer at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada.
Non-classical recordings include collaborations with the progressive rock metal band District 97, the ambient-folk duo Relax Your Ears, singer-song writer David Sylvian, and for the single “Valkyrie” by Asia with John Wetton. Vangeline&nbsp;is a New York–based teacher, choreographer, and dancer specializing in Japanese Butoh. As the artistic director of the Vangeline Theater/New York Butoh Institute, she is widely recognized for her rigorous, research-driven approach to Butoh and for expanding the form’s relevance in the 21st century. Her work actively champions diversity and inclusion within the field, creating space for historically underrepresented voices. She carries forward the legacy of Butoh while infusing it with contemporary relevance—through activism, research, and performance.
Through her all-female dance company, Vangeline creates socially engaged, innovative choreographic works that unite Butoh with activism. She is the founder of both the New York Butoh Institute Festival, which uplifts the work of women in Butoh, and Queer Butoh, a festival centering LGBTQ+ voices within the form. She is also the visionary behind&nbsp;The Dream a Dream Project, an award-winning program now in its 18th year that brings Butoh to incarcerated individuals in correctional facilities across New York State.


She was recently awarded a prestigious fellowship at Wadham College, University of Oxford, for the 2026–2027 academic year. ABOUT THE BROADWAY MAGIC HOUR
Jim Vines&nbsp;and&nbsp;Carl Mercurio&nbsp;have each been performing magic all their lives, and they met 10 years ago when they were both booked to perform in the same magic-variety show in Coney Island. Jim and Carl became friends and started performing together in venues throughout the tristate area, eventually collaborating on a family magic show, which debuted in 2022 at the North Fork Community Theatre in Long Island.
Fast forward to May 2024, when Jim was on a phone call with Richard Brooks, the head talent booker for the Broadway Comedy Club and Greenwich Village Comedy Club. Rich mentioned that while there were a variety of great magic shows in New York City, he had noticed something was missing—a big family-friendly event that could be enjoyed by kids, parents, friends, and anyone looking for a feel-good outing. Rich suggested that a family magic show in Midtown that brings families together for an unforgettable experience filled with joy, laughter, and wonder could be a hit. Jim told Rich about the family magic show that he and Carl were already performing and mentioned that they had been looking for the perfect venue in which to regularly present the show. Rich was enthusiastic. It was meant to be! In a moment of inspiration, Jim and Carl came up with the name The Broadway Magic Hour. Now it was time to put it on the historic Broadway Comedy Club stage. The NYC debut of the Broadway Magic Hour took place on Saturday, August 3, 2024 - and to everyone's delight, the show quickly sold out. They followed up by adding more dates, and every show had a full house, proving that the city truly needed this show. A few months later, Time Out NY rated The Broadway Magic Hour as one of the Best Off-Broadway Shows for Kids &amp; Families, as well as one of the Best Magic Shows in NYC.

FRICTION: a dance exploring AI, humanity, and the sparks where tension, technology, and fractured relationships collide and ignite.
It prickles your skin. Pricks. Fastens. Adheres. Sticks. Is Stylized. Edgy. Of this moment. Fault Lines. Schisms. Chasms. Seismic action. Tectonic shifts. Land and people and minds. Tension. Fraying. Relationships. Relations to Self. Friction.
Friction is that moment a fire can start. It cannot start without. Neither intercourse. Neither love. Straddling the lines separating technology from humanity, a theme DGDC has portrayed since its first evening-length work, Plasma Field in 1999, through 2023’s e-Motion, investigating sentience in AI, ahead of the curve [Dance Magazine on e-Motion].
What’s the divide between artificial intelligence and real intelligence?
Daniel’s choreographic style was best articulated by dance critic Deborah Jowitt: “blending casualness with precision.” In FRICTION, Gwirtzman is pushing both the casualness and the precision to the max. In the group section “LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL,” which previewed June 25/26 at New York City Center’s IN THE STUDIOprogram, the dancers become bytes, pushing against their will, against their consciousness, executing dense, intricate movements at relentless speeds. The dance contains an archive of excerpts from dances in the Company’s repertory, pieces of dances torn up, recontextualized, fed to the machine and regurgitated.
FRICTION captures the tensions and tenor of our time, days before the midterm election, harnessing the fraught emotions that characterize our incivil society.

The score has been generated in full in collaboration with the large language model Claude. Daniel has used a range of additional programs to generate various voices, which mirror the thicket of data on display in the dance.

ABOUT DANIEL GWIRTZMAN DANCE COMPANY
Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company, known for its optimistic ethos, was formed in 1998. Since its inception, it has demonstrated a commitment to education, operating with the philosophy and programming that everyone can join the dance. Incorporating dance and story into the film medium has been a consistent practice along with creating original programming for the stage. The repertory has earned praise for its humor, musicality, stylistic diversity, and accessibility. The Company’s acclaimed creation, “Dance With Us,” a free online educational resource, received leadership support from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and is designed to demystify choreography and increase comfort viewing and speaking about dance. The digital resource showcases the Company’s decade-long practice working in the dance for camera genre. Lincoln Center and The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts presented the Company in 2023 during its 25th Anniversary season in a stand-alone program called Everybody Can Dance. In the summer of 2024, DGDC was in residence at the American Dance Festival where it developed its newest evening-length dance, Flashpoint. In 2025, the Company’s AI-themed theater/dance work e-Motion, a collaboration with playwright Saviana Stanescu, made its NYC premiere at La MaMa during the La MaMa Moves! Festival, which Culturebot reviewed as “profoundly chilling,” noting Daniel’s performance as “masterful.” Also in 2025, Framing Ménerbes, a film created by the Company in Provence, premiered in France, followed by its US premiere at the Dolby Screening Room in Manhattan with guests Donald Byrd and Jovani Furlan leading the post-screening conversation. Since then, the film has screened in theaters in Upstate New York—Binghamton, Ithaca, and Rochester—and in Ann Arbor, MI and Vancouver, WA. The film will screen next in San Francisco at the Alliance Française in January 2027. Other highlights include performances at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, The Kennedy Center, Battery Dance Festival, Fire Island Dance Festival, Bryant Park, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Shangri-La-La is a fast-moving new comedy musical inspired by the rise of Siegfried &amp; Roy — with original songs, Vegas glamour, impossible dreams, outrageous costumes, magic, friendship, immigrant reinvention, Steve Wynn, Bugsy Siegel, and just enough tiger danger to keep everyone alert.
Written by Mike Meier &amp; Peter Giambalvo, the show is part showbiz fairy tale, part immigrant dream, part Vegas fever dream — and, yes, inspired by actual events. Unfortunately.
