Joyful. Clever. Completely original.&nbsp;Summer Shebang&nbsp;is a 45-minute musical-sketch-comedy romp inspired by the imaginative (and surprisingly insightful) ideas of children. Devised and performed by our multigenerational troupe of actors and opera singers, this show is bursting with music, laughter, and imagination. These playful pop-up performances are coming to seven Harlem and Upper Manhattan locations, ready to delight audiences of all ages!!
Featuring a mix of new and returning artists, Summer Shebang will be directed by Madeline Bender, with CSC favorites Ty Norris and Daniel Oakes alongside newer faces, including actor Payton Georgiana, opera singer Lena Haleem, and writer/actor Anterior Leverett, a Hansberry-Lilly Fellow through the Dramatists Guild Foundation.

Dances Patrelle&nbsp;(dP) is a dynamic professional ballet company celebrating its 39th year! dP presents two annual seasons in New York – the timeless holiday tradition,&nbsp;The Yorkville Nutcracker, and a spring repertory season featuring world premieres and classic Patrelle favorites. Mr. Patrelle’s body of work includes over 50 original ballets choreographed for Dances Patrelle, and spans an incredibly wide range of styles, from his beloved American Songbook collection to such contemporary classics as&nbsp;Madame X, Macbeth&nbsp;and&nbsp;Rhapsody in Blue. Heralded by Lynn Garafola in&nbsp;Dance Magazine&nbsp;as a choreographer with “a personal vision…classical because it is rooted in metaphor and symbolic language [and] populist because of its legibility and broad cultural resonance.” Patrelle has also cultivated a long-time collaboration with composer Patrick Soluri, commissioning four original scores including 2009's&nbsp;Murder at the Masque&nbsp;for dP's 20th Anniversary. Waves of Korean Contemporary Dance&nbsp;brings together three distinct voices in contemporary dance, presenting works by&nbsp;WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company, Andamiro Art Company, and choreographer Lee Dongha.
Spanning different generations, artistic perspectives, and approaches to movement, the program explores the diverse possibilities of Korean contemporary dance. From narrative-driven choreography and dynamic physical expression to works inspired by history, society, and human experience, the three works offer audiences an opportunity to encounter the evolving language of Korean contemporary dance.
Presented by the Korean Cultural Center New York and WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company, the program reflects KCCNY’s ongoing efforts to introduce the breadth and vitality of Korean performing arts to New York audiences and to create a space where established and emerging artists can share their distinct artistic perspectives on one stage. Andamiro Art Company
MOON&nbsp;is a storytelling-based contemporary dance work that follows the Andamiro Expedition as they set out to find a legendary door said to be hidden somewhere inside the moon and capable of granting wishes.
The Korean title Mun carries multiple meanings: moon, door, gateway, and question. Each member of the expedition has a distinct personality, and together they take on new challenges as they pass through unpredictable worlds and unfamiliar gateways in search of the legendary door. At times, they lose their way or feel discouraged, but by overcoming moments that would be difficult to face alone, they gradually grow together.
Through vivid characters and dynamic movement,&nbsp;MOON&nbsp;captures the excitement and playfulness of adventure. It tells a warm story about growing through challenge and adventure, and about how even the most difficult journey can ultimately be completed when undertaken together.
For its New York presentation, the original 60-minute full-length production for ten dancers has been adapted into a 25-minute version performed by three dancers. By condensing the work’s central narrative and key scenes, this adaptation presents the expedition’s adventurous journey in search of the legendary door.

Guernica Again&nbsp;is a motif of Picasso’s original ’ Guernica, ’ which was the background of Nazi’s indiscriminate bombing of civilians. The choreographer deals with the violence and feelings that penetrate history and events within the frame of the theory that similar events in the past and present repeat in parallel. Historical events of Picasso’s views on the victims by the era of ‘Guernica’, Comfort Women, ‘Cheonanham accident’ and ‘the sinking of Sewol ferry’. These themes, through the choreographer’s eyes, deal with
the death of civilians and essential themes of life. The choreographer will present a narrative led by a strong life force struggling from constraints and violence in memory of those who have suffered indiscriminately in their time through the Guernica Again repertoire.&nbsp;Guernica Again&nbsp;has been published in two versions, the 16-member group piece and the solo version.

Exposed, Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre’s 27th Annual Performance Season, is an evening-length work that explores vulnerability, vision, and courage. The scenic design creates an ever-changing landscape of pathways, levels, and partitions that conceals, distorts, confounds, beckons, and demands resilience. The choreography traces a journey from fragmentation and restraint to openness and release, unfolding through fluid partnering, interconnected ensemble work, sweeping phrases, buoyant lifts, and soaring moments of suspension that embody trust and transformation. The Full Theatrical Premiere of&nbsp;Exposed&nbsp;will take place from March 11-13, 2027 at&nbsp;New York Live Arts.

Amanda Selwyn&nbsp;(Artistic Director/Choreographer) founded Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre/Notes in Motion in 2000 and, in 27 seasons, has directed over 130 productions, developed a network of artists, and created Notes in Motion’s dance education program. Gingold Theatrical Group (GTG) (David Staller, Artistic Director; Isaiah Josiah, Managing Producer) today announced&nbsp;Village Wooing, a special Salon Presentation of George Bernard Shaw’s sparkling romantic comedy. Newly adapted and directed by David Staller,&nbsp;Village Wooing&nbsp;will be presented at The House of the Redeemer (<a href="https://www.google.com/maps/search/7+East+95th+Street?entry=gmail&amp;source=g" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">7 East 95th Street</a>), a historic landmarked mansion on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, for four performances only, October 22–25, 2026.
For this special engagement, GTG will present a new gender-neutral adaptation of Shaw’s text. The adaptation opens the roles—identified simply as “A” and “Z” in Shaw’s original—to performers of any gender, illuminating the play’s contemporary resonance while preserving the wit, intelligence, and emotional intricacy of Shaw’s language.
Written in 1933,&nbsp;Village Wooing&nbsp;is one of Shaw’s most intimate, romantic, and quietly profound late works. Two resolutely independent people, each determined to remain single, meet aboard a pleasure cruise. Their conversation—at first accidental, then increasingly irresistible—continues through two later encounters as argument becomes attraction and an unlikely courtship begins to take shape. This rarely seen play is filled with Shaw’s characteristic wit, intellectual combat, and emotional surprise.
“Village Wooing&nbsp;is Shaw at his most playful, intimate, and unexpectedly romantic,” said Artistic Director David Staller. “It is a delicious battle between two people who are certain they know exactly what they want—until they meet someone who makes them see the world in a completely different way. By opening the roles to actors of any gender, we can focus even more clearly on what makes the play so enduring: the exhilarating danger of allowing another person to change your life. And I can imagine no more inviting setting for this encounter than the beautifully atmospheric library of The House of the Redeemer.”

Village Wooing&nbsp;will be presented as a Salon Presentation: an intimate theatrical event inspired by the great literary salons, bringing exceptional performers and a small audience together in an elegant and unusually personal setting.
Proceeds from&nbsp;Village Wooing&nbsp;will directly support GTG’s continuing artistic programs, including its celebrated Project Shaw reading series, the Speakers’ Corner new-play development program, and its Off-Broadway productions.

FRICTION: a dance exploring AI, humanity, and the sparks where tension, technology, and fractured relationships collide and ignite.
It prickles your skin. Pricks. Fastens. Adheres. Sticks. Is Stylized. Edgy. Of this moment. Fault Lines. Schisms. Chasms. Seismic action. Tectonic shifts. Land and people and minds. Tension. Fraying. Relationships. Relations to Self. Friction.
Friction is that moment a fire can start. It cannot start without. Neither intercourse. Neither love. Straddling the lines separating technology from humanity, a theme DGDC has portrayed since its first evening-length work, Plasma Field in 1999, through 2023’s e-Motion, investigating sentience in AI, ahead of the curve [Dance Magazine on e-Motion].
What’s the divide between artificial intelligence and real intelligence?
Daniel’s choreographic style was best articulated by dance critic Deborah Jowitt: “blending casualness with precision.” In FRICTION, Gwirtzman is pushing both the casualness and the precision to the max. In the group section “LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL,” which previewed June 25/26 at New York City Center’s IN THE STUDIOprogram, the dancers become bytes, pushing against their will, against their consciousness, executing dense, intricate movements at relentless speeds. The dance contains an archive of excerpts from dances in the Company’s repertory, pieces of dances torn up, recontextualized, fed to the machine and regurgitated.
FRICTION captures the tensions and tenor of our time, days before the midterm election, harnessing the fraught emotions that characterize our incivil society.

The score has been generated in full in collaboration with the large language model Claude. Daniel has used a range of additional programs to generate various voices, which mirror the thicket of data on display in the dance.

The film will screen next in San Francisco at the Alliance Française in January 2027. Jefferson Lives!&nbsp;is Teatro Grattacielo’s first commissioned opera, created in collaboration with&nbsp;Polyhymnia, with music by&nbsp;Joshua Daniel Nichols, a libretto by&nbsp;Stefanos Koroneos, and concept and source material by&nbsp;James Harrigan. Receiving its world premiere as part of the national commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, the opera examines the American Revolution not as distant or fixed history, but as a living human and psychological experience.
Through the ghostly presence of John Adams and a modern figure drawn unexpectedly into the past,&nbsp;Jefferson Lives!&nbsp;traces the movement of revolutionary ideas from private thought into public action, revealing the doubt, moral pressure, and personal consequence behind America’s struggle for independence.
The world premiere is paired with Puccini’s&nbsp;Suor Angelica, presented in a new production shaped by memory, absence, and the lives of women whose voices have been silenced. In this interpretation, Angelica is the only living presence in a convent inhabited by ghosts—women who once obeyed, loved, and surrendered parts of themselves within a system that demanded submission.
Together, the two operas explore freedom from opposite but connected perspectives:&nbsp;Jefferson Lives!&nbsp;considers liberty as a civic and political struggle, while&nbsp;Suor Angelica&nbsp;examines its deeply personal and spiritual cost. An empire tightening its control and a convent demanding obedience become parallel worlds in which individual conviction is tested against institutions far larger than the individual.

Director’s Statement
Rather than presenting history as a fixed narrative, the opera approaches the American Revolution as a living psychological and theatrical experience. John Adams appears as a ghost shaped by memory and moral burden, while a modern Narrator—an accidental protagonist—finds himself overtaken by the history he thought he only knew. Moving fluidly between dialogue, monologue, music, and silence, the work transforms documented events into a dramatic journey that traces how ideas of freedom and resistance migrate from thought into action. Jefferson Lives! invites audiences to encounter the Revolution not as a monument, but as an unresolved human reckoning.​

Co-founded by Iraq War veteran and choreographer Román Baca, Exit12 Dance Company began in 2007 as a way for him to process his military experience through dance. As a ballet dancer turned Marine, choreography became a means of healing—an expressive outlet to explore and share the invisible wounds of war.
Exit12’s full-length performance at John Jay College,&nbsp;Stories of War in Honor of Veterans Day,&nbsp;weaves together veteran storytelling with concert dance. The program takes the audience through the military experience, exploring war, the effects on family, homecoming, reintegration, and hope for the future. It will include a new piece developed with the John Jay College Veteran community – the College enrolls the most military-related students in the City University of New York system – and conclude with an audience talkback.&nbsp;

ABOUT EXIT12 DANCE COMPANY
Iraq War veteran and choreographer Roman Baca&nbsp;co-founded&nbsp;Exit12 Dance Company&nbsp;in 2007 to process his military experience through dance. His early works received critical acclaim and opened dialogue about the veteran experience.
After several of his platoon mates died by suicide in 2011, Baca saw the urgent need for others in the military community to access similar healing tools. Exit12 expanded to serve veterans, service members, and military families, honoring the diversity of experiences within the armed forces. The company developed a model that brings together individuals affected by war and guides them through writing and movement workshops to co-create public dance theater performances that reflect their stories, challenges, and hopes. Each performance is followed by facilitated discussions that deepen understanding between performers and audiences.
Since becoming a nonprofit in 2018, Exit12 has evolved from a small dance company into an internationally recognized organization advancing arts-based approaches to healing, dialogue, and cultural diplomacy. Rooted in our mission to use dance and storytelling to honor and explore the military experience, our programming meets the unique needs of the military-connected community while fostering inclusion and shared understanding.
Each year, Exit12 serves over 1,000 military-connected participants and reaches more than 5,000 audience members through public performances and livestreams. We conduct a minimum of 25 weeks of rehearsals with a core ensemble of seven professional dancers, creating new works inspired by stories of service in collaboration with participants.

Exit12 has served over 10,000 members of the military community and engaged more than 70,000 civilians through live events—and over a million through digital and print media—bridging the military-civilian divide and fostering empathy through art.

Mellon Foundation’s 2010 report, “We Make Do,”</a>&nbsp;which cited how destabilizing the shortage of affordable rehearsal space in New York City is to the dance sector. A successful pilot supporting residencies on four CUNY campuses in 2013 led to CDI’s formal launch in 2014. Since then, CDI has become a key player in New York City’s performing arts ecosystem, leading a consortium of 14 CUNY colleges and four arts organizations to host 20+ residencies for NYC choreographers and dance companies each year. Over the past 12 years, CDI has granted 300 residencies to emerging and established choreographers, providing invaluable resources to artists, while enhancing CUNY students’ education and cultural experiences.

 The 3rd Annual Step Up for Fashion on Madison Avenue returns on Saturday, September 19, presented by the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District (B.I.D.) in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), benefiting the CFDA Scholarship Fund, The day-long initiative brings together CFDA members, over 50 leading American and international fashion brands, retailers, students, and the Madison Avenue community for a celebration of fashion, creativity, and philanthropy. Step Up for Fashion will once again serve as the centerpiece of Welcome Back Saturday, the Avenue’s annual celebration of the fall season and the exceptional fashion, jewelry, accessories, and boutiques spanning from East 57th to East 86th Streets as well as adjacent side streets. At the heart of this year’s program is the CFDA Scholarship Fund and the emerging designers it supports.
