Notre Dame Discovery Days Student Visit Program - Engineering & STEM: A Day for Future Innovators

Any adult who has helped a learner—formally or informally—has access to two useful voices: a “Teacher Voice” that provides instruction, information, and sometimes step-by-step directions, and an “Executive Function Coach Voice” that invites thinking, problem-solving, and&nbsp;ownership.
Both are important. The key is knowing which voice the learner needs in the moment — when to step in with direction and when to step back and make room for&nbsp;thinking.
Join Forman School's Cognition and Learning Teacher and Executive Function Coach Robyn Greenspan, Cognition and Learning Head of Department Brittany Bloom-Price, and Director of Cognition and Learning Dr. Kristin Simmers as they share research-informed strategies that work for learners of all ages, with a&nbsp;focus&nbsp;on:

Middletown House Concert Series

Andrew VanNorstrand is a musician, singer, and songwriter based in Springfield, Vermont. He has performed on festival stages, concert halls, dance floors, and living rooms all over North America and beyond. With his brother Noah VanNorstrand, Andrew has and recorded with the popular dance band Great Bear and is now often on the road with progressive folk/roots quartet The Faux Paws. From the Rust Belt to the Blue Ridge, cold spring in New England to a summer’s night in Charlottesville, his original songs seek out beauty in the search and struggle for understanding. Andrew blends traditional folk, old-time, country, and Western swing with a deep appreciation of indie-roots-Americana and artists like Jeff Tweedy, Richard Thompson, Gillian Welch, Sufjan Stevens, and Townes Van Zandt. Rachel Bell is sought after for concerts, contra dances, French BalFolk dances, English country dances, workshops, and festivals. Her playing spans an enormous range of emotion, from nuanced and sensitive to exhilarating and powerful, pushing the boundaries of what is expected from an accordion. Rachel’s work is infused with a contagious enthusiasm for her instrument and a deep respect for the musical traditions she carries. She loves to create authentic connections with audiences everywhere—from packed, energized dance halls to small, intimate house concert settings. The 35th
Annual Folks on Spokes &amp; Step Forward Ride + Walk event is planned for Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 8:00 am to 2 pm at Fowler Field in downtown Milford. 
As one of Connecticut’s longest running charitable events, cyclists and walkers come together to raise funds and awareness for mental health and addiction recovery in support of Bridges Healthcare’s services. Participants of all ages can enjoy the scenic Milford coastline by riding 5, 10, 20, or 40 mile routes or walking a 5K. This family-friendly event includes activities for kids, music, lunch, event t-shirts, and a special remembrance ceremony to honor lives lost to suicide and overdose.
Early registration discounts are available through August 31, 2026. From September 1-October 1, 2026 advanced registration fees are $50 per cyclist, $35 per walker, $15 for kids under 18. Children 6 and under are free.

Join us for Shelton Day 2026 on Sunday, October 4th from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Veterans Memorial Park in Shelton!
Bring the entire family for a fun-filled day with something for everyone! Kids can enjoy pony rides, train rides, and a 3-Hour Large Group Bubble Show from 12:00–3:00 PM, along with many more fun activities throughout the day.
Come hungry and enjoy delicious food from a wide variety of food trucks, then stroll through the park and visit our many local vendors. After shopping, stop by the Drink Tent, grab a refreshing beverage, sit back and enjoy some great live music!

Experience an afternoon of classical brilliance as pianist Arseniy Gusev discusses and performs Schubert Late Works. This special performance is free and open to the public, presented by the Connecticut State Music Teachers Association and the Branford Musical Arts Society with generous funding from The Daro Foundation."Pianist and composer Arseniy Gusev was born in St. Petersburg in 1998 and has been studying music since the age of five. In 2015, he went to the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. In 2017, he graduated with honors from the Specialized Music School of the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory, and afterward&nbsp;studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. In 2018, he moved to the US, in 2022, received his bachelor’s degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and in 2024, finished his master's program at the Yale School of Music as a composer. He now continues his studies at the Juilliard School as a pianist. Sergei Babayan, Keith Fitch, Chris Theofanidis, and David Lang are among his teachers. Gusev’s compositions present a colorful variety of styles and genres, some of which are solo, collaborative, symphonic, ballet, and opera.

He actively performs in the US and abroad, and has given solo concerts in Austria, Belgium, Italy, Slovakia, Russia, and Germany. His compositions are performed in Mariinsky Theater, Carnegie Hall, Konzerthaus Dortmund, St. Petersburg Philharmonic and other major venues. He collaborated with such conductors as Arkady Steinluht, Dmitry Vasiliev, Robert Carter Austin, Alexander Titov, Ilya Derbilov, Mikhail Golikov, and Mikhail Mosenkov, and performed together with such musicians as Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson, Olga Kaler, and Anthony Roth Costanzo. Arseniy participated in master classes of Garrick Ohlsson, Samuel Adler, Andrew Norman, Joan Tower, Dmitry Bashkirov, Grigory Gruzman, Jerome Rose, Alexander Mndoyants, Nina Lelchuk, and others.
Arseniy is a laureate of many prestigious competitions, such as the Dorothy McKenzie Artist Award, Cleveland Piano Virtu(al)oso Competition, Singapore International Piano Competition, Three Arts Piano Competition, Cleveland Composers Guild Contest, “Another Space” Composition Competition, International Gavrilin Competition, International Competition "Performer-Composer", and others. In 2025, he was awarded the prestigious Charles Ives Fellowship by American Academy of Arts and Letters.
