The Batailles of the Diaspora : Round 2 is partnered with The Artist Collective &amp; is in collaboration with the North Hartford Cultural District, this event brings together Artists from different respectful fields, local vendors, and the community for an evening of cultural exchange, community engagement and cultural dialogue. This event combines a dance competition that highlights African dance and other dance forms related to the Diaspora (going beyond breakdancing and hip-hop).&nbsp;The Batailles of the Diaspora&nbsp; engages the audience and participants in dialogue exploring cultural identity, representation in the arts, and community connection within the African Diaspora. Come ready to be immersed in the celebration of Afro-Caribbean culture in recognition of Juneteenth. This event is family friendly, so feel free to bring the whole tribe, ASE!

Creative Writing and Memoir Writing Workshop Series Two creative writing workshops are offered this summer. The first will be for open forms and begin on July 6th. The second will focus on memoir writing and will start on July&nbsp;8th. They will both meet at Saint James Church, 1018 Farmington Avenue&nbsp; in West Hartford.&nbsp; The&nbsp;dates for open&nbsp;forms are: 7/6. 7/13, 7/20, 7/27, 8/3, and 8/10. These are all Mondays. The dates for the memoir workshops are: 7/8, 7/15, 7/22, 7/29, 8/5, and 8/12. These are&nbsp; Wednesdays. They will both meet from 7:00-8:30 p.m.. The cost is $240.00, and payment is for the series. Sign ups&nbsp;are on a first come first served basis. Registration is required.&nbsp; Writing instructor David Pontrelli is a&nbsp;&nbsp;graduate of Wesleyan University, a certified Connecticut English teacher, and a certified Amherst&nbsp;Writers&nbsp;and Artists&nbsp;workshop&nbsp;leader. HIs participants represent a wide range of ages and abilities, from inner-city children to adult professional&nbsp;writers. The&nbsp;workshops&nbsp;he leads&nbsp;stress participant safety and create an enhanced sense of community. He&nbsp;has been a featured reader at Art Works Gallery, the Hope Out Loud Peace and Arts Festival, and Word House.
