If you’re ready for a night of smart, high‑energy comedy, we’re delighted to announce our upcoming production of Lauren Gunderson’s Toil and Trouble — a razor‑sharp dark comedy about ambition, friendship, and the catastrophes that happen when three people try to take destiny into their own hands.
Adam, Matt, and Beth are stuck. Jobs are scarce, money is tight, and their dreams feel impossibly far away. But when a fortune‑cookie prophecy hints at greatness, they latch onto the worst possible plan: overthrow a tiny foreign nation. What begins as an idea quickly spirals into a full‑blown “revolution,” complete with shifting loyalties, inflated egos, and a modern echo of Macbeth’s seductive pull toward power.
Their “strategies” grow more ridiculous, their alliances wobble, and their confidence skyrockets in direct proportion to how badly everything is going. Gunderson’s writing crackles with wit, and the escalating chaos of their misguided scheme delivers laugh after laugh. This is comedy built on character, timing, and truth — and a wee bit of slapstick.
