Love responds to imagination. Life to economy. Enjoy special performances of John Melczer's play, “Café Brioche” upstairs in the ballroom of the historic Hooper Mansion at the Marblehead Arts Association on Saturday, October 3rd at 7pm and Sunday, October 4th at 2pm.
This evocative one-act play tells the story of two former actors, Claire and Edmund, who meet after many years apart in a quiet café to see whether or not there is a third and final act in the arc of their lives. A waiter narrates and comments on the proceedings.

"Café Brioche" theater performances at Marblehead Arts Association

Marblehead Arts Association is currently welcoming applications for new artist membership in the following categories until 5pm Tuesday October 13 - Fine Arts, Photography, Sculpture, Craft, Digital Art &amp; Animation, Wearable Art and Culinary Art. 
Artists wishing to apply for membership should complete the online application and drop-off five pieces of their work with a $25 fee, at Marblehead Arts Association, 8 Hooper St, Marblehead by 5pm, Tuesday October 13. All 2D works should be thoroughly dry and ready to hang, as the quality of presentation, framing and wiring is also taken into consideration as part of the jurying-in process.

Marblehead Arts Association's new Artist Member application deadline: October 13

Savor the return of renowned jazz sax player, Henley Douglas Jr with the Jorgan Trio to the Marblehead Arts Association, as part of Jazz at the Arts series. Henley has shared the stage with everyone from the Neville Brothers to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Laverne Baker, and also co-founded a non-profit organization supporting music education in schools and youth centers.
With cabaret-style seating and cash bar, you can just sit back and enjoy a night of great jazz upstairs in the ballroom at the historic Hooper Mansion. Concert starts at 7pm. Doors open at 6.30pm. Tickets $35 on sale now online or at Marblehead Arts Association and Arnould Gallery, Marblehead.

By sensitively and skillfully interweaving improvised trumpet and flamenco guitar with traditional mandinka kora and vocals from Senegal, FlamenKora creates timeless and enchanting multicultural music; a welcome balm in these troubled times. Volker Goetze’s evocative trumpet lines dance gracefully with the soulful vocals and kora of his newest duo partner, the esteemed master of traditional Mande music – Ali Boulo Santo Cissoko. Up-and-coming Rio de Janeiro and Madrid based flamenco guitar maestro Roberto Monteiro is the newest band member, adding authentic Spanish flair with driving rhythms and subtle, imaginative colors. As the group’s founder and producer, Goetze brings a special wisdom to FlamenKora, acquired not only through decades of devotion to West African Mande music, but also through a deep mastery of jazz composition and arrangement and a recent deep dive into the melodic and rhythmic traditions of flamenco. In 2025 FlamenKora spent June in residence at the Manship Artists Residency, developing new compositions and deepening the project’s fusion of flamenco, kora traditions, and jazz.

Dueling Pianos is back. Bring your friends and have a ball. Dueling Pianos is a massive "to the top of your lungs" sing along with all your friends! Two grand pianos are center-stage with a team of outrageously talented pianists that seem to know every song ever written.
Each show is different because it's all request. And you or your friends might get called up onstage for a bit of good humored fun and some unforgettable you-tube moments. These shows are request oriented, interactive sing-a-longs wherein two piano players sit across from each other and trade songs. The dueling piano audience is used for the dueling aspect of the show. Audience members are pitted one-side-against-the-other. Examples of rivalries include country vs. rock, men against women, etc.
Dueling piano shows often take unexpected turns, like involving wait staff members, changing song lyrics or roasting popular audience members. There aren't many boundaries. It's one big sing-along party, swaying to the music and bellowing-out familiar lyrics. You're not just being entertained by the piano players - you are part of the show!
"Think YOU won't sing along? Just TRY not too.... I dare ya!"
