Graciela Tiscareno-Sato, Neighbor

Graciela Tiscareño-Sato is a decorated military veteran, publisher, and bilingual STEM Consultant to K-12 school districts. She’s a sought-after speaker on environmental entrepreneurship, leadership, innovation and the Latino educational crisis and solutions. Ms. Tiscareño-Sato was honored by The White House as a Woman Military Veteran Leader Champion of Change in March 2014.

Tiscareño-Sato is the author of three award-winning books: "Latinnovating: Green American Jobs and the Latinos Creating Them," the first book showcasing Latino-led innovation and entrepreneurship in the green economy. [ISBN: 978-0-9834760-0-9] Latinnovating is planned as a series with the second book in production. Her bilingual Captain Mama children’s picture book series is the first-ever series showcasing women in uniform flying airplanes, in two languages. The global aviation adventure series was inspired by her military service. Since publication of series debut "Good Night Captain Mama," it has won four literary awards, including 1st Place in the children’s picture book category in Writer’s Digest Magazine’s national competition among independent publishers. "Captain Mama's Surprise" followed and was named the Gold Medal winner by the Military Writers Society of America in 2019.

Graciela is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley where she majored in Environmental Design/Architecture. She completed the Aerospace Studies program as an AFROTC scholarship cadet and was a Distinguished Graduate. She served as an Air Force navigator and instructor onboard the KC-135R refueling tanker training during her nine year active duty service and earned the prestigious Air Medal for service in hostile conditions over Iraq. Graciela served with the NATO Battle staff in Italy during the Bosnia-Herzegovina conflict, as a bilingual liaison officer at our embassy in Ecuador and executed a CAPSTONE mission introducing new generals to their posts throughout Asia. While serving, Graciela earned a Master degree in International Management, with emphasis in global marketing, from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington.

Graciela is the CEO and founder of Hayward’s multicultural education publishing firm Gracefully Global Group, LLC. Between service and entrepreneurship, she worked in corporate global marketing roles at Siemens Communications headquartered in Munich. She lives in the east bay with her family and Siberian Husky.
