Greer was elected to the Board of Alderman for three consecutive terms. She has been the Vice Chair and then Chair of the Post Audit & Oversight committee and has served on the Public Safety and Transportation committee as well as the Zoning and Planning committee.
She was appointed by Governor Romney to serve on the Judicial Nominating Committee as well as the Commission on the Status of Women. She was also appointed by Governor Patrick to serve on the State Advisory Committee to the US Commission on Civil Rights.
Professionally, Greer is a retired software engineer who currently invests in properties and shares her expertise as a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. She also serves on the Board of the Greater Boston Chinese Cultural Association, mentors for the high school robotics team, instructs Tai Chi classes and adult Mandarin classes for Newton Community Education and is a frequent substitute teacher for SJS Catholic Elementary school.
Greer's engineering experience included working in high tech as a software engineer, project manager and IT Executive. After graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Greer worked at NASA JPL, Fidelity Investments and Merrill Lynch as well as several startups inbetween.
Greer has been a chronic volunteer since childhood. Adulthood only changed how she volunteers. She coached soccer and t-ball and has been seen at color day and after prom parties. She currently teaches TaiChi at the local Chinese Community center, volunteers with the Girl Scouts and is a familiar face in several Newton Assisted living facilities as well as among the Veterans of Newton.
Greer and her husband, Rob, have lived and raised their two children in Newton since 1991.
