Celebrate Juneteenth, a day of freedom, resilience, and joy, with us at The Heckscher Museum of Art and in partnership with the Huntington African American Museum! Join us in the galleries from 12 to 2 pm to chat with Just Powers: Long Island Biennial 2026 exhibiting artists Michael Krasowitz, Luanda Lozano, and Christine Tudor. Then head outside for a live performance by the Adlib Steel Pan Orchestra on the museum terrace from 4 to 5 pm. Stay after the performance for a reception on the terrace, where guests and musicians will gather over refreshments to celebrate community and enjoy the evening together.
Founded by Trinidadian musicians dedicated to preserving Caribbean culture, Adlib Steel Pan Orchestra brings the vibrant, genre-spanning sound of the steelpan, an instrument with its own story of cultural pride, to this meaningful occasion.&nbsp;
*In the event of inclement weather, the performance and reception will take place in the Museum.

Both English and Spanish speakers are welcome. Kids will explore a variety of different art materials and techniques as they create open-ended projects and let their imaginations soar! On June 20, read Z is for Zebra: A Mosaic Menagerie by Judith Caseley. Kids will explore all of the beautiful animal mosaics featured in this beautiful book and will create their own unique paper mosaic collages featuring their own letter and animal.

Join us for an evening of art, food, and community at the Heckscher Museum of Art this summer! Inspired by the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the Museum’s 100th Anniversary of Eclipse of the Sun by George Grosz, this community dinner brings people from all walks of life together around a shared table for an open and welcoming conversation about shared experiences, art, civic life, and freedom under the summer stars.
This evening will feature cuisine from Kabul Afghan Restaurant, which gives guests the opportunity to enjoy foods and flavors that reflect the many cultures and communities of Long Island. The Museum will also offer extended gallery hours, with select Biennial artists in the galleries from 5-6 pm to speak with visitors near their artwork and share insights into their creative practices.
From 6-8 pm, everyone is invited to gather for a community dinner outside the Museum. Seating and meals will be available while supplies last, and the evening will be offered as a pay-what-you-wish experience. Whether you come with friends, family, or on your own, we warmly welcome you to pull up a chair, share a meal, and connect with others through art, conversation, and togetherness.

Monday &amp; Tuesday, August 24 &amp; 25, 2026 9:30 am - 12:30 pm 
Children are invited to explore works of art on display in the Museum and then create original works of art inspired by what they see. Participants will be given individual attention and work in a variety of media and techniques. Projects will be brought home at the end of the second day of each workshop. A new Workshop will also be held August 26-27th
Young artists will imagine and design their own larger-than-life ice cream sculptures. Attendees will build armatures and paint their own delicious three-dimensional masterpieces! This fun project encourages learning about Pop Art, scale, observational skills, and basic 3-D construction skills. (Workshop fee includes ice cream from the ice cream truck in Heckscher Park on Monday, August 24. If the weather is inclement, it will be changed to Tuesday.)
Bring a snack and water bottle. Registration required. Space is limited.&nbsp;

Children are invited to explore works of art on display in the Museum and then create original works of art inspired by what they see. Participants will be given individual attention and work in a variety of media and techniques. Projects will be brought home at the end of the second day of each workshop.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Young artists will investigate a variety of painting techniques and will explore different kinds of paint, such as acrylic and watercolor. The class will do observational studies, paint in plein air and work abstractly while creating several unique projects.

Risa Finkel returns to the great outdoors of Long Island to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation in her new show Grist for the Mill, June 12, 13, and 14. With arrangements and musical direction by Paul Greenwood and Michael Rice, Rex Benincasa on drums, Ritt Henn on bass, and Mike Rosengarten on guitar, banjo, and mandolin, the show is directed by Geoff Stoner, with technical direction by Kelly Wohlford. Creative consultant is David Friedman.&nbsp;Proceeds will benefit the preservation of the Lefferts Tide Mill, the nation’s best preserved 18th century tidal gristmill, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Northport, NY — The Northport Maritime Day &amp; Blessing of the Fleet will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Northport Village Park and Dock.
Coordinated by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Northport Flotilla in partnership with the Village of Northport and the Northport Chamber of Commerce, the event celebrates Northport’s maritime past, present, and future with activities on land and water for all ages.

 <li>11:00 a.m. – Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony at Northport Village Dock </li>
 <li>Boat Parade featuring vessels from local yacht clubs and recreational boaters </li>
 <li>Dockside Vessel Tours (12:00 – 2:00 p.m.) including fishing vessels, Coast Guard and maritime response craft </li>
 <li>Maritime Activities &amp; Demonstrations (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.)

On the Water
More than 100 boats are expected to participate in the parade, including vessels from the Northport and Centerport Yacht Clubs as well as recreational boaters, many decorated with nautical flags.
Planned participants include vessels from:

 <li>U.S. Coast Guard Station Eaton’s Neck </li>
 <li>U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary </li>
 <li>U.S. Merchant Marine Academy </li>
 <li>Northport Fire Department </li>
</ul>
Following the Blessing, select vessels will be available at the dock for public viewing.

In the Park
Village Park activities will include demonstrations and hands-on opportunities related to boating safety and seamanship, such as:

 <li>Man-overboard drills </li>
 <li>Search and rescue patterns </li>
 <li>Emergency line throwing </li>
</ul>
Additional activities are expected to include:
<ul>
 <li>Children’s events such as the Rain-Gutter Regatta </li>
 <li>Marine-related exhibits and community displays </li>
 <li>Live music from local performers </li>
</ul>
Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program and the Northport Historical Society are expected to participate with educational displays and exhibits.

Following the Blessing of the Fleet, judges will officiate the Maritime Day contest recognizing local breweries.
