Discover one of France’s most exciting young pianists as Jean-Baptiste Doulcet brings virtuosity, artistry, and spontaneous improvisation to the stage. This captivating concert highlights a rising international star whose performances blend classical brilliance with the thrill of creating music in the moment.The program includes Chopin Impromptus Nos. 1-4, Sibelius Impromptus Nos. 1-6 and improvisations with audience participation.Born in 1992, French pianist <a href="https://jeanbaptistedoulcet.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jean-Baptiste Doulcet</a> is a versatile artist known for his work as a performer, improviser and composer. In 2024, he was invited by Klaus Mäkelä to perform Stravinsky’s Petrouchka with Orchestre de Paris, BBC Proms and the Granada Festival. He appears regularly at major festivals such as La Folle Journée (Nantes and Tokyo), La Roque d’Anthéron and Piano aux Jacobins, and performs internationally across Europe, North America and beyond. Prizewinner at the Marguerite Long and Clara Haskil competitions, he has released acclaimed albums including Un Monde Fantastique and Søleils Blancs. A 2026 release explores improvisation and cinema, reflecting his decade-long career as a professional film critic. A passionate chamber musician, he collaborates with leading soloists and ensembles. Doulcet studied at the Paris Conservatoire and in Sweden, and in 2025 joined the faculty of École Normale de Musique de Paris. He also co-founded the French Connection Academy in Denmark.

Chicago-born jazz vocalist Angel Spiccia makes her Studio5 debut with Dennis Luxion on piano, Eric Hochberg on bass and Phil Gratteau on drums. Spiccia is known for her love of the Great American Songbook and has performed throughout Europe and at Chicago venues including Andy’s Jazz Club, the Green Mill, Jazz Showcase and Winter’s Jazz Club. The concert will be recorded live for Chicago Jazz Live on WDCB. Tickets: $35 theater seating / $45 cabaret seating.

Klezmer, the traditional music of the Jews of the Shtetls of Eastern Europe, was brought to America by Jewish immigrants, where it merged with jazz in the early 1900s. From Yiddish folk and theater songs to rollicking dance music, Maxwell Street Klezmer Band has been reinventing the tradition since 1983 with warmth and humor.

About Maxwell Street Klezmer Band:&nbsp;
Founded in 1983 by Lori Lippitz, Maxwell Street Klezmer Band has played at Carnegie Hall, toured Europe, and provided the soundtrack for Chicagoland’s Jewish celebrations for over 4 decades. The band marked its 40th “Bandiversary” at The Old Town School of Folk Music in 2023. The group is releasing a new live album as well as an educational band book series in 2026.&nbsp;
