West End Story: Celebrating Community and the Music of Leonard Bernstein

The annual <a href="https://www.useaboston.com/south-end-open-studios-2026" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">South End Open Studios</a> is the one and only event that unifies the entire neighborhood, opening doors to the public for a powerful weekend of engagement with art. It's not one building, not one gallery: it's the whole neighborhood. United South End Artists has produced the event since 1986 and this year is more expansive than ever before. On Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 11am to 5pm, visitors are invited to experience the range and richness of art in every corner of the South End. More than 100 artists will be sharing their work across 10 locations, including 2 group sites, and 1 communal exhibition at Piano Craft Gallery with an opening reception and kick-off party on September 18th, 6-8pm. Salon Monét’s Shellee Mendes Hosts “Fall Ball” to Support EMPath

September 19th fundraiser will help Economic Mobility Pathways step up initiatives to help low-income families climb economic ladderAt a time when families are struggling more than ever to put food on the table, when winter heating bills loom, when work commutes drain wallets, Shellee Mendes is stepping up to the plate once again! 


Mendes is hosting a “Fall Ball” fundraiser to raise money to help Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath) the Boston-based, national nonprofit organization applauded for providing families experiencing poverty with the tools necessary to get onto the economic ladder and build better lives for themselves and their children. 
The Fall Ball takes place on Saturday, September 19 from 4 – 8 pm at the Mendes-Martin Mansion in Braintree, MA. <a href="https://empathways.org/events/2026-fall-ball" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://empathways.org/events/2026-fall-ball</a>
An EMPath board member, Mendes shows by example how the combination of hard work andsupport when you need it can help people to put poverty behind them. Once homeless with two young children, she built a thriving business that now includes two hair salons on affluent Newbury Street. She is the only African American female hair salon owner on that high-end Back Bay avenue. Recently, Salon Monet was named by boston.com as one of the top 15 businesses out of the hundreds that grace Newbury Street.
Former Boston Mayor Kim Janey leads EMPath, a 202-year-old organization that works to disrupt poverty through a multi-faceted approach, combining direct services, including a shelter program for women and children; a global learning network with member organizations across the United States and in 11 countries around the world; research into what anti-poverty initiatives actually work; and advocacy to advance systemic policy changes.
As EMPath President &amp; CEO, Janey states that the supportfrom Shellee Mendes and other board members and supportershas been vital to the organization’s success. “We can’t thank Shellee enough for always being there with ideas, connections, and 
willingness to put in the hard work and energy to raise needed funds and make a difference for people who are struggling in this very challenging economy,” said Janey. “At EMPath we have the ability tohelp people in need onto the ladder of economic mobility, but in these tough times we needassistance from those who can offer a hand up. I am so grateful to Shellee and all of our supporters.”
Mendes said that she is proud to honor the incredible work that EMPath does, not just in Boston, but across Massachusetts and the nation. “The EMPath model, providing access to assistance and needed resources, is transformational,” she said. “I know firsthand that the kind of support they give can be life-changing.”

This class is for those who don't see themselves as artists; give yourself a chance to flex a creative muscle and learn through play. September 26-27th, 10am - 4pm
Join us for the 2nd annual Cape Cod Pottery Trail! This self-guided trail offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the people and places where Cape Cod pottery is made. With 16 locations on the 2026 trail map and multiple artists at some locations, visitors can experience an extraordinary range of ceramic work—from wheel-thrown and slipcast functional ware to hand-built sculpture, jewelry, raku and wood-fired pieces. Many of these spaces are not open to the public outside the Trail, making the weekend a unique opportunity to meet the artists, see their creative processes, and purchase work directly from the makers. The Trail is free and open to everyone. There is no starting point or route. Visitors already on-Cape can jump onto the trail at any location, while those arriving from off-Cape often begin at the Sagamore location. Download a map from the Pottery Trail website. For an added element of fun, this map doubles as a Pottery Passport which provides space to collect a stamp at each stop. Complete the passport and turn it in at the final stop for a chance to win a handmade piece created by one of the Trail artists. September 25, 5-7pm Kick Off the Weekend at the Preview Party Get the hottest ticket in town! Position Summary:
The Project Sales Associate is responsible for managing and growing sales of commercial doors, frames, and architectural hardware on construction projects. This role focuses on contractor, general contractor, architect, and facility owner relationships&mdash;supporting projects from design stage through submittal, pricing, and final installation. This is a project-based sales role (not door-to-door sales) with a strong emphasis on technical understanding, coordination, and long-term account development. ________________________________________
Key Responsibilities &bull; Develop and maintain relationships with general contractors, subcontractors, architects, and end users &bull; Identify and pursue project opportunities in commercial construction (new builds, renovations, tenant fit-outs) &bull; Prepare and submit accurate quotes for doors, frames, and architectural hardware packages &bull; Interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and door hardware schedules &bull; Coordinate with estimating, engineering, and operations teams to ensure accurate takeoffs and pricing &bull; Manage project pipeline from bid stage through award and project completion &bull; Attend pre-bid meetings, job walks, and coordination meetings as required &bull; Provide value engineering solutions and product substitutions when appropriate &bull; Track project status, submittals, and approvals to ensure timely delivery &bull; Maintain CRM records, project logs, and bid tracking updates &bull; Support problem resolution during fabrication, delivery, or installation phases ________________________________________
Required Qualifications &bull; 2&ndash;5+ years of experience in construction sales, architectural products, or building materials (doors/frames/hardware preferred) &bull; Strong understanding of commercial construction processes and project flow &bull; Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications &bull; Familiarity with Division 8 (Openings) is highly desirable &bull; Experience working with general contractors, subcontractors, or architectural firms &bull; Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills &bull; Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and CRM systems (e.g., Procore) ________________________________________
Preferred Skills &bull; Knowledge of hollow metal doors, wood doors, frames, and commercial hardware systems &bull; Experience with manufacturers such as Allegion, Assa Abloy, dormakaba USA, or comparable product lines &bull; Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple active bids/projects &bull; Detail-oriented with strong follow-through on submittals and documentation &bull; Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team ________________________________________
