Jack Meyers, Neighbor

My name is Jack Meyers and I am a writer.  I write about high school sports for the for the <i>Independent Press</i> and when I’m not a Model (salesperson) at Hollister Co. in the Bridgewater Commons, I write for enrichment.

            As a front line employee for a major corporate retail company, I see the direct effects of the corporate office’s decisions. I see how the minimum wage drives away the most experienced workers, leaving the meager pay and inconsistent hours to inept teenagers, myself included.  I see the management and leadership skills, or lack thereof.  I see utter chaos and disorganization.  Moreover, I see an awkwardly laid-out sales floor with minimal lighting, deafening music, and suffocating fragrances that discourage countless customers.

            I have only been working in retail since November of 2010, yet I have developed a general understanding of the perils and pleasures, the hardships and rewards, of having a not-always-so-steady job at the very bottom of a business. 

My mission is to collect and report on the personal anecdotes of teens and adults that subsist on hourly pays.  I want to share my story and their stories with anyone and everyone who wants an exclusive look into the inner workings of business.
