It’s a chance to go behind the scenes of the film and back inside one of the most storied places in Jewish American life.
Grossinger’s was the glamorous heart of the Catskills: a world of tummlers and tennis courts, comedians and cabanas, romance, rivalry, and enough buffet to sustain a small republic. The resort that helped inspire Dirty Dancing became a defining stage for Jewish American culture and comedy — the place where families returned summer after summer, stars came to play, and a generation learned that leisure could be loud, lavish, and very well catered.
But the Borscht Belt was never just a vacation. NEA Jazz Master and eight-time Grammy-winning trumpeter, composer, and creative polymath Terence Blanchard is one of the leading voices in and beyond modern jazz. He and his groove-focused electric ensemble, The E-Collective, join forces with the brilliant saxophonist, composer – and John Coltrane’s son – Ravi Coltrane for the only NYC performance of their collaboration honoring the legacies of Miles and Trane and their indelible partnership in Davis’ First Great Quintet. Performing on the stage where John Coltrane himself gave a historic concert in February 1962, this momentous event speaks to jazz history through the voices of two of music’s most forward-looking artists.

Griffin – a two-time Grammy winner and winner of the Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award – is one of the leading lights of the acoustic folk/Americana world. Her emotionally rich songs about love and death and joy and heartache blend old narratives with new truths, retaining a coffeehouse intimacy even as she packs concert halls.
Opening the concert is singer-songwriter and alt country/folk musician Kathleen Edwards – a new (and Canadian) Americana star.
