WEST LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Voices Rock California is bringing two separate no-audition rock and pop choirs to Los Angeles’ Westside this fall, with one choir for young singers and another for adults.
The Youth Choir gives young singers a fun, supportive place to sing rock and pop music, build confidence, make friends and experience the joy of singing together. Rehearsals begin at 6:00 p.m.
The Adult Choir begins at 7:30 p.m. and welcomes everyone from experienced singers to people who haven’t sung in years, as well as those who aren’t sure they would even call themselves singers.
Both choirs will be led by Los Angeles-based vocalist and music educator Lindsay Day.
Voices Rock founder Betsy Leighton, a former social worker and therapist, started the organization with 15 singers in Denver in 2014. The idea was simple: create a place where people could sing together without auditions, pressure or the expectation that they already consider themselves singers.
“We’re not looking for perfect singers,” Leighton said. “We’re creating a place where people can make music, meet people and feel like they belong.”
Voices Rock choirs sing rock and pop music in a welcoming, community-focused environment. There are no auditions and no need to read music.
Youth Choir Begins at 6:00 p.m.
Adult Choir Begins at 7:30 p.m.
