The Berkeley Community Chorus & Orchestra’s (BCCO) winter concert presents masterworks by three composers: Walton, Poulenc and contemporary American composer, Caroline Shaw.
William Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast premiered in 1931. It is a cantata for baritone solo, chorus and orchestra, with a double brass section. The text is the story of a feast at which Belshazzar, the Babylonian king, commits sacrilege by using the sacred vessels of the Jews, who are in exile in Babylon, to praise the heathen gods. His doom is foretold by a ghostly handwriting on the wall. That night he is killed and his kingdom collapses. The music throughout is strongly rhythmic and richly orchestrated. The rhythms and harmonies reflect Walton's interest in jazz and other popular music pressed into service to tell a religious story.
Francis Poulenc’s Gloria was first performed in 1961 by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and it has become one of Poulenc’s most celebrated works. It is scored for soprano solo, chorus and orchestra and its text is the Gloria section of the ordinary mass.
These concerts will include Caroline Shaw's Watermark Concerto, a piece scored for piano and orchestra, which will showcase award-winning SF Symphony pianist John Wilson.Tickets are free and will be available in December at www.bcco.org

2PM: Crawloween Begins
Official check-in locations open for participants to collect their event materials and prepare for the crawl. Groups can start at Mayes Oyster House on Polk Street, Rick & Roxy’s on Lombard Street or Union Street Ale House on Union Street.
Afternoon: Explore the Route
Guests can begin visiting participating bars in the Marina, Russian Hill, Polk Gulch, Union Square and other areas. The early hours are a good time to grab food, meet friends and visit popular stops before the biggest crowds arrive.
Throughout the Event: Drink Specials and Free Entry
Participating venues will offer discounted drinks for Crawloween guests. Ticket holders also receive free entry at included locations, so they can move around the route without paying a separate admission charge at every bar.
Afternoon and Evening: Party Bus Service
The free Pub Crawl Party Bus will connect key sections of the event. Participants can use the shuttle to reach more bars and experience different parts of San Francisco during the crawl.
During the Crawl: Contests and Party Favors
Guests can compete in the Costume Contest and take part in the Find the Gnome Contest. Party favors and entertainment at select locations add to the Halloween atmosphere.
10PM: Official Pub Crawl Ends, but the party is just getting started
The freedom to create a personal route is a major part of Crawloween. This is not a tour where every participant must follow a leader or arrive at each bar at a set time. Guests can choose locations based on music, food, atmosphere or where their friends are gathering. One group may stay near Polk Street, while another moves between Union Street and Lombard Street. The large venue list leaves room for both plans.
