Richard Shindell lives as both an immigrant and emigrant, crossing thresholds, that informs his illumination of the human experience through narrative song. Shindell has inhabited a Zen Buddhist monastery and busked in the streets of Paris.
Originally from New York, now living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Shindell is a writer whose songs paint pictures, tell stories, juxtapose ideas and images, inhabit characters, vividly evoking entire worlds along the way and expanding our sense of just what it is a song may be. Meticulously recorded over three years in New York and Buenos Aires, his most recent release, Careless, offered an ambitious, luxurious, full- length statement. Shindell immersed himself in the studio, allowing the time and latitude to explore, experiment, take risks—to play as each of these eleven songs was given form and substance. While his signature acoustic guitar style is used to good effect, Careless also found Shindell plugging in more.North Carolina singer-songwriter Jess Klein performs her Americana/folk-rock originals with a “voice of unblinking tenacity” (New York Times).&nbsp; Jess Klein came to this world to pull firebrand power and childlike joy from our darkest shadows. Her acoustic-driven, hook-laden story songs revel in the polychrome of human experience – joy, rage, sensuality and resilience. Hailed as “a major talent” (Billboard),&nbsp; Jess has appeared on Good Morning America and NPR’s All Things Considered, performed at the Newport, Winnipeg, Falcon Ridge and Philadelphia Folk Festivals, and shared stages with&nbsp; Arlo Guthrie, Josh Ritter, Ani DiFranco, Steve Earle and Alejandro Escovedo.&nbsp; Jess’s live shows are known for their intimate and soulful atmosphere; her emotive vocals and poignant storytelling invite her fans on a journey through themes of love, loss, and resilience.

She recently released her 22nd album, Reimagining, and is working on new material for yet another release in the not-too-distant future. Come and get energized, humorized and harmonized!Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Pat Wictor makes his home in many musical worlds.&nbsp; Grounded in rural blues and gospel traditions, Wictor’s lean, poetic songs and expressive guitar playing are seasoned with jazz, pop, improvisational surprise, philosophy and social commentary.
Pat’s most recent CD, FLARE, a meditation on political division in America, was called “brilliant” by WFUV’s John Platt, and reached #1 on the Folk-DJ charts.&nbsp; Wictor currently tours solo and in a variety of duos, and is a music educator of note, teaching workshops on guitar, songwriting, body percussion, and vocal and instrumental improvisation.

Plainfield, NJ – The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra (NJIO) invites the public to a free concert celebrating music has inspired national pride on Sunday, May 3rd at 3pm at the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, NJ.&nbsp; 
NJIO’s three orchestras (Prelude, Intermezzo, and Symphony) will present music by Mozart, Grieg, Vaughn Williams, and more, culminating in Sibelius’s Symphony no.2.&nbsp; 
NJIO concerts provide a relaxed concert atmosphere: no dress code, assigned seating, ticketing, or shushing. To ensure all audience members feel comfortable, NJIO offers a Concert Comfort Station in the concert lobby where attendees can borrow additional cushions, fidget toys, coloring pages and crayons, and large print program books. 
This concert is the final performance for NJIO’s 2025-2026 season. Information on NJIO’s summer education programs is available now at <a href="https://www.njio.org/summer" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">www.njio.org/summer</a> and an announcement about the 2026-2027 concert season will be available in July.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Christ Church in Short Hills

Christ Church in Short Hills will present a solo concert recital by internationally acclaimed organist, Chelsea Chen, on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 4:00 pm. The special concert will feature a selection of traditional organ compositions along with contemporary music. She will perform on the historic, renowned organ at Christ Church in Short Hills, a 63-rank Aeolian-Skinner opus 1347 designed by organ builder Joseph Whiteford in 1960. The instrument, the largest of its kind in the state of New Jersey, was restored in 2015 with a new antiphonal organ and Trompette en Chamadeis.&nbsp;
The Chelsea Chen Organ Concert is presented free of charge. A reception will follow the performance in Parish Hall of Christ Church in Short Hills, located at 66 Highland Avenue, Short Hills, NJ.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

Ms. Chen’s dynamic recitals have electrified audiences at premier concert and church venues throughout the United States and Asia. The Los Angeles Times has praised Ms. Chen’s “rare musicality” and “lovely lyrical grandeur,” with a compositional style that is “charming and irresistible.” Recent soloist concert appearances include performances with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the San Diego Symphony, with upcoming concerts in Taiwan and northern Europe.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Ms. Chen attended The Juilliard School, receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees under the direction of celebrated organists, Paul Jacobs and John Weaver. She later moved to Taiwan as a Fulbright Scholar, where she studied folk songs and composed organ solo and chamber music. She returned to the U.S. to study in the Artist Diploma program at Yale University. Ms. Chen currently resides as Artist-in-Residence at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in New York City.&nbsp;
