The Back Bay's population decreased by 4.4 percent since 2000, and 8.8 percent since 1990.
Terrible news for so many reasons, not the least being that the closing will leave a gaping hole in the Back Bay retail scene, both figuratively and literally.
The Back Bay was originally designed to be home to Boston's major cultural, medical and educational institutions. Over time, however, many have relocated to the Fenway. Not everyone is happy about that.
