Fall is one of the busiest moving seasons in Fairfield County, and it catches people off guard every year. Summer gets the attention, but September through November is when leases turn over, homes close after the summer market, and families try to get settled before the holidays. If a move is on your calendar this fall, a little planning now saves real money and real stress later. Start with the date, not the truck. The last weekend of the month and the first weekend of the month book out first. If you can move mid week or mid month, you will usually have more choice and a calmer day. Crews are fresher, elevators and loading areas are less contested, and traffic around Bridgeport and the Merritt Parkway is lighter on a Tuesday than on a Saturday. Get the price in writing before you commit. A reputable mover should be able to walk through your home in person or by video, count what is actually going, and give you one flat cost for the whole job. If a quote sounds far lower than everyone else, ask what it leaves out. Stairs, long carries, heavy items, and packing are where cheap quotes grow. Every job at Old Fashion Moving is priced at a flat cost once we see the full scope, so the number you agree to is the number you pay. Pack the essentials box yourself. One box or clear bin with chargers, medications, toiletries, a change of clothes, basic tools, paper towels, and the coffee maker. It sounds small, and it is the difference between a smooth first night and tearing through twenty sealed boxes at midnight. Label boxes by room and by priority, not just by contents. "Kitchen, open first" beats "misc." Plan for the weather like a local. Fall in Connecticut can mean a warm afternoon or a cold rain. Keep old towels or a roll of plastic for the entryway, and ask your mover how they protect floors and doorways. Professional crews carry runners, door jamb protectors, and furniture blankets as standard equipment. If your crew shows up without them, that tells you something. Ask about the crew, not just the company. Who is actually coming into your home? Are they employees or day labor picked up that morning? How long have they worked together? A steady crew that has moved together for years works faster, communicates without shouting, and treats your furniture like it matters, because their name is on the job too. Do a final walkthrough before the truck doors close. Check every closet, the attic hatch, behind doors, and the top shelves in the garage. The most common call a mover gets after a move is about the one thing left behind. Two minutes of checking beats a second trip every time. Old Fashion Moving is a family owned moving company based in Bridgeport, run by owner Jonathan Rodrigues. We handle residential moves, packing, junk removal, and cleanouts across Fairfield County and beyond, and we are not done until our customer is fully satisfied. If you are planning a fall move and want a flat cost quote, call us at (203) 928 8844 or visit www.oldfashionmoving.com.
