Joyce grew up in North Tiverton and continues to have strong ties to the community. Currently, she lives in Cranston and teaches writing and literature courses at Roger Williams University and Rhode Island College. She has written for a variety of publications including The <i>Fall River Herald News</i>, <i>The Hampshire Gazette</i>, and The <i>Amherst Record</i>. She directed The Fall River Mill Women Oral History Project and most recently has contributed her work to <i>The Piscataquis County Observer</i> (in Maine) and <i>What’s Up Events</i>. Her educational background includes completion of an Associates Degree in Journalism from Bristol Community College. Joyce continued her education at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst where she majored in Journalism with a Women’s Studies concentration, and she completed graduate work at The University of Rhode Island. She describes herself as a Rhode Islander through and through. The love of her life is her granddaughter, Mellany.
