Chihuly Collection

On view at the Chihuly Collection: July 25 – November 29
Each year at the Chihuly Collection, we highlight the work of artists who create and/or teach at the Morean Glass Studio. The purpose of this exhibition series is to demonstrate that extraordinary glass art is made not only in the Pacific Northwest (where Dale Chihuly is from) but also right here in our backyard.&nbsp; This year’s featured Morean Glass Studio artists, like Chihuly, are inspired by the rhythms and intricacies of the natural world to create meditative work that invites the viewer to pause and reflect.
Originally from Illinois, Matthew Szidik is a demo artist, narrator and instructor at the Morean Glass Studio. He teaches summer camp and intermediate courses as well as flameworking workshops. He holds a BFA from Southern Illinois University. Matthew says his work “transports people out of their everyday routine and into a place of meditation by reigniting their imagination.”
Kimberly Fahey joined the Morean Glass studio a year ago from New Jersey and currently serves as the introductory glassblowing instructor and assistant demonstration artist. She holds a BFA in Photography with a minor in Glass from Jacksonville University. Inspired by sacred geometry and mandalas, her work combines glass and painting to explore meditation, movement and material connection.
Hailing from Massachusetts, Kailey Carleton is a beginning glassblowing instructor and demonstration artist in the Morean Glass Studio. She holds a BFA in Glass from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. About her work, Kailey states, “it explores the relationship between organic growth, memory and transformation…I am drawn to the stillness found in small, often-overlooked moments in nature and seek to evoke that quiet sense of presence within my work.”

Clay&nbsp;en&nbsp;Español is a beginner-friendly wheel throwing experience designed for participants who would like to practice and improve their Spanish while learning pottery. Instruction is conducted primarily in Spanish, creating an immersive and welcoming environment, while English support is available during one-on-one instruction and whenever needed to ensure student success. 
This workshop is intended for complete beginners and requires no prior pottery or Spanish experience. 
Each participant receives three 1 lb balls of clay

Participants will create multiple pieces during class and select their favorite two vessels to keep. All selected work will be trimmed, glazed, and prepared for firing by the instructor.

Each child must be accompanied by an adult, who helps participate in creating accessories with their child as they monitor and help them with the use of hot glue, scissors, and other technically advanced tools. Adults get to create as well and customize a “Take-Home Bag” to transport their hand-made doll home.

Artist Bio:
Emilie Hernandez is the founder of Mani Mina, a brand offering textile dolls, patterns, and doll-making experiences. She opened New York’s first doll-making school in Brooklyn in 2022 and moved to Saint Petersburg in 2024 to continue developing her workshops in the Tampa Bay area. With an Instagram community of 127,000 followers, she is set to publish two doll-making books in the US and France by June 2026. Her passion is sharing joy and creativity through doll-making, helping participants reconnect with their inner child through unforgettable experiences.

Artist Statement&nbsp;
“My work examines my relationship with clay as a place of comfort and refuge, through the creation of contemporary ceramic objects. Drawing inspiration from historical ceramic forms, fabric, clouds, and organic matter, I create ambiguous forms that invite personal interpretation. My recent practice explores the tension between sculpture and function. Incorporating light, fiber, and wax, I transform sculptural forms into domestic objects. Delicate details embedded within otherwise functional pieces invite intentionality, encouraging users to slow down and engage with the present moment.&nbsp;
This exhibition invites viewers into a cozy landscape filled with ambient lighting, whimsical vessels, and playful arrangements. Titled Apricity, which means the warmth of the sun in winter, this exhibition examines how softness, comfort, and serenity can emerge from domestic and sculptural forms. “
About the Artist:
Dani Lewis is a contemporary multi-media artist who primarily works with clay. Growing up in Connecticut, she was raised in a creative family that encouraged her to explore art at a young age, and she was first introduced to ceramics in middle school. In 2024, Dani graduated with her BFA in ceramics from Arizona State University and recently completed a post-bac program at the University of Hartford. She has received multiple awards and scholarships and has exhibited work in group and juried exhibitions around the country. She has also attended workshops at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, was a 2025 summer resident at the Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts, and is a current Artist in Residence at the Morean Center for Clay in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Their simplistic design&nbsp;lends to&nbsp;a&nbsp;relatively fast&nbsp;firing cycle of 8-12 hours, compared to other kiln designs, while heavily relying on alkaline glazes,&nbsp;slips&nbsp;and salt for the ware. 
Though many of today’s contemporary wood fire potters may have moved away from these&nbsp;kilns&nbsp;there are some that only prefer this traditional method of firing.&nbsp; 
We aim to show why these traditions are still viable.&nbsp;&nbsp;With less stresses on the exacts of stoking sequences and more on wood selection and clay choices. We will also be sharing few glazes that have served potters of old, and us very well.&nbsp;

Students will&nbsp;arrive at 8am on Friday with 6-12 pieces of their own medium sized pottery, ready to be fired. Students and instructors will work together to load the kiln and firing will begin around 6pm. The kiln must be tended to at all times, and students will pick shifts to keep things running through the night. Expect a late evening, midnight, or early Saturday shift.&nbsp; &nbsp;

This touring exhibition brings long-overdue attention to Georgia’s vibrant woodfiring tradition. The Contemporary Woodfire Potters of Georgia exhibition showcases a multigenerational collective of artists whose practices span folk pottery lineages, Japanese kilntraditions, and contemporary ceramic artistry—united by a shared devotion to the centuries-old craft of woodfiring. The group includes some of the most influential names in Southern pottery, among them legacy potters with more than 30 years of firing experience such as Roger Jamison, Geoff Pickett, Jon Brinley, and Allen Gee, as well as studio innovators including Stephen Hawks, and Ron Meyers. Equally central to the movement are the next generation of fire chiefs and apprentices—Rebecca Wood, Kyle Jones, and Liz Bloodgood—and a rising cohort of nationally recognized ceramic artists including , Linda Suskin, Kimberly Shelton and Joel Huff.

Shapeshifter: New and Select Works by Palehorse is the distillation of 20 years of work by St. Petersburg based, multidisciplinary artist Chris Parks, and a glimpse into a new body of work that reveals his continued metamorphosis.
Shapeshifter traces the arc of a commercial illustrator who has worked with some of the world’s top brands, bands and cultural icons, and a studio artist and muralist who sees his personal work as a vehicle for sacred connection. In this new collection, Palehorse channels the transformative power of gods, guardians and totems to offer a mirror to the self, weaving together archetypes, sigils, symbols and sacred geometry.
In a retrospective spanning two decades of dedicated practice, Palehorse presents his creative journey through rock poster art, skateboard graphics, wrestling lore and apparel design, reimagined in new ways. He also explores long-imagined collaborations with friends such as Ben Venom, Morning Breath Inc, Masked Republic, Jon Stine and Bryan Nichols, whose influence has been enduring and foundational.
Shapeshifter is a continuum of becoming, a practice of reflection and an expression of gratitude.
About Palehorse
Palehorse is a traditional and digital artist known for his meticulous linework, vivid color palettes, and layered symbolic language. His work spans large-scale murals, gallery installations, identity and branding, print design and apparel.
His artwork has been commissioned by global brands including National Geographic, Nike, FX, Under Armour, PepsiCo and Hasbro, and exhibited in galleries internationally including the renowned Dalí Museum. He has also designed officially licensed posters for artists such as Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Jimi Hendrix and Rush.
Beyond the studio, Palehorse’s work extends into public spaces and popular culture, from co-founding the SHINE St. Petersburg Mural Festival to creating masked professional wrestling personas appearing in AEW and CMLL. His current practice focuses on personal studio work, an original line of clothing and products, and Kriya Yoga. He also leads Seekers of the Eternal, a weekly meditation circle.

The Winter Wood Symposium is back at the Morean Center for Clay! We’re sending 2026 off in a blaze of fire this December, so join us for an unforgettable week of clay and camaraderie.
Natural fiber clothing and closed-toed shoes are required. No plastic!
Gloves, glaze, and wadding are provided. Every participant must signup for at least one shift during the course of the firing.&nbsp; Our firing leads will be giving lectures throughout the week, so bring a notebook and a pen!&nbsp;
All participants will need to bring cone 10 bisque work to this event. Between 12 and 15 cubic feet of work is recommended. This is a great opportunity to fire large pieces. Tall pieces are highly encouraged! Dates and times for artist talks will be emailed out to participants as the symposium approaches.
Pull something out of the fire that you gotta show off? Submit your piece for our Woodfire Symposium Exhibition in January 2027. Include the piece’s title, the price/NFS (not for sale), and which kiln you fired it in. Paperwork will be provided after unloading.
