Independence High School

The LSO is celebrating its 35th anniversary and for its season opener is collaborating with the Master Singers of Virginia and Loudoun Lyric Opera to present Beethoven’s glorious masterwork, Symphony No. 9, which has never been performed in Loudoun County! The 9th broke traditional rules of classical music, by adding human voices to a symphony. It also turned the famous “Ode to Joy” into a global anthem for human unity.

Join us on Saturday, August 29, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.&nbsp;for a day filled with tastings of Virginia-made wines, spirits, ciders, and other fine&nbsp;beverages. Enjoy live music all day from the <a href="https://danjamesband.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Dan James Band</a> and the <a href="https://lwbbmusic.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Low Water Bridge Band</a>, a chef's market in the barn, craft vendors, and food trucks serving a variety of cuisines.&nbsp;All ticket holders have access to tour the historic Manor House, visit with local chefs with their favorite recipes, and enjoy beautiful mountain views around the property. Additionally, festival goers may conveniently store items they purchase from beverage providers and vendors at our complimentary&nbsp;bag check.&nbsp;
The tasting ticket is $35 in advance (until 5pm Friday, August 28, 2026) and includes a commemorative Shenandoah Sips tasting glass ($40 at the gate). For those opting to not drink or purchase alcohol, the Sober Sips Pass is $20 and includes two complimentary non-alcoholic beverages from our bag check tent. There is no admission charge for children 12 or younger. No person under the age of 18 shall be admitted unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Get ready to turn ordinary rocks into tiny works of art! Join us at the Chapman DeMary Trail at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, for an afternoon of creativity and nature. Participants will paint two rocks—one to take home and one to place along the trail for another visitor to discover. Your colorful creation might become someone else’s favorite trail treasure! The Purcellville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will provide all the supplies. Discover Nature’s Secrets is a monthly series of nature walks and environmental programs held on the last Sunday of each month. The series is designed to encourage people of all ages to explore, enjoy and appreciate the natural world right here in Purcellville.
