ABOUT LA MAMA

La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club is dedicated to the artist and all aspects of the theatre. La MaMa's 65th Season, ONENESS, focuses on creating solidarity and community, exploring ways to build connections for cross-sector coalition and invites artists, activists, organizers and community members into the creative process. We build audiences that are integral to the creative process. Our local and global community members who gather in our physical, digital, and hybrid spaces to see new work, are often the first audience for that work. La MaMa believes art is a force for change.

QUOTES ABOUT YUNGCHEN’S WORK

“Yungchen sings like an unearthly creature. Her voice has the power to stop time and makes everything else in the world fall away. Her voice transports you.” – Natalie Merchant

“Yungchen joined our Real World Records label in 1996. The label was founded in 1989 to provide gifted musicians from around the world with access to state-of-the-art recording facilities, with the aim of bringing the music of the world to the world. We were lucky to work with Yungchen’s wonderful voice and music, which encapsulate the spirit, understanding and compassion of Tibetan culture.” – Peter Gabriel

“Her voice is astonishing in range, rich in vibration, and filled with a rare kind of beauty that uplifts, restores, and stays with you long after the last note. Lhamo’s seventh album, One Drop of Kindness, is a glorious reminder and golden encouragement for us to do precisely that.” – Neal Copperman, AMP Concerts

“Lhamo’s voice is not only beautiful, but strong. Her phrasing, control and depth of emotion are unsurpassed. This, combined with her purity and poignancy, will enchant and impress any listener." - Leslie Holmes, Denver Advocate

“I truly believe that voice has a vibrational energy to connect, empower, heal, and transform all human beings." - Yungchen Lhamo
