Guest Speaker: Dr. Gabriela (Gaby) Pereyra
What Do We Owe the Land?

What does it take to bring a dying piece of land back to life? The Biggest Little Farm follows John and Molly Chester as they leave Los Angeles behind and set out to transform 200 acres of depleted, drought-stricken land into a thriving and radically diverse farm. But nature has its own plans. As coyotes, snails, pests, predators, drought, and unexpected animal friendships complicate their vision, the Chesters discover that every problem is part of a larger, interconnected system.

Filmed over eight years, John Chester's critically acclaimed documentary is both an intimate story of ambition and perseverance and a vivid lesson in the astonishing complexity of the natural world. What begins as an idealistic dream of living in harmony with nature becomes a humbling exploration of biodiversity, resilience, and the delicate balance that sustains all living things.

Dr. Gabriela (Gaby) Pereyra is a Venezuelan-Uruguayan farmer, biogeochemist, and food systems practitioner with over 25 years of experience working alongside farmers across the Americas, Africa, and Europe. Gaby co-owns Yara Farm in New York’s Hudson Valley, works as Director of Operations at Chester Agricultural Center, and co-directs Tierra Viva Collective. She also coordinates the BIPOC Queer Expressway (BQE), a farmer-led aggregation and distribution network connecting small farms with institutional buyers, community organizations, and regional markets. Gaby is particularly interested in weaving together the people, resources, and relationships that make food systems work at a scale beyond individual farms, while keeping farmers and their communities at the center of how those systems are built.

This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) in partnership with the City Council and the office of NY City Council Majority Leader Shaun Abreu and Speaker Julie Menin

The Biggest Little Farm is part of the Uptown's SCIENCE ON SCREEN<https://scienceonscreen.org/>(r) Series, an initiative of the Coolidge Corner Theatre in partnership with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

92NY

As New Yorkers prepare to choose their governor this November, what are the forces shaping the race — and the future of the state?
As part of our ongoing State of New York series, 92NY invites candidates for city and state elections to present their vision for New York’s next chapter in a conversation with 92NY CEO Seth Pinsky.
First elected Nassau County Executive in 2021, Bruce Blakeman has made public safety, taxes, affordability, and opposition to a number of Albany policies central to his tenure. Before becoming County Executive, he served as a Hempstead Town Councilman, a Nassau County legislator and presiding officer, and a commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Now, as he campaigns for governor against incumbent Kathy Hochul, Blakeman has put forward an agenda focused on lowering taxes and the cost of living, changing state energy policy, and pursuing a more aggressive approach to crime and public safety.
In a wide-ranging conversation, Blakeman and Pinsky will discuss what Blakeman sees as the successes and challenges of his tenure in Nassau County, what he believes New York’s government is getting right — and wrong — and his vision for the future of our state.
Part of 92NY’s commitment to convening substantive conversations about the people and ideas shaping public life, this program does not constitute an endorsement of any candidate or campaign.

Luckily, he has a chance to rewrite his old wrongs and his old memoir in his own one-man show. Most of us have them: a gifted perfume that isn't quite our scent, a foundation in the wrong shade, a skincare set still in its wrap. Instead of letting them expire in a drawer, residents across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut can now swap them.
Swap My Beauty is a new, free community where members swap new, factory-sealed beauty products they don't use: makeup, skincare, fragrance, hair care and more. There's no buying and no selling. Members list what they don't use, get matched with someone nearby who wants it, and ship with prepaid, tracked labels.
Only new, sealed products can be listed, and every listing is checked before it goes live.
The community is now open in the New York Tri-State area. Members who join by December 31 and list three products get their first swap fee-free.
