Appellate Division argument for the case.State v Edwards &amp; Wilson Appellate ArgumentDiane Wilson and Camryn Edwards were arrested on December 5, 2024, after a march and rally, when they attempted to enter Formosa Plastics Corp’s USA headquarters in Livingston, NJ, to hand-deliver a letter to top executives who work there. Those of you who were present saw that on the day of the rally, police cones had been placed on the lawn between the rally and the Formosa Plastics building. The Livingston police threatened to arrest anyone who went past the cones. Argument of their appeal from their convictions for Defiant Trespass in the lower courts will be heard by a three-judge panel of the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court on September 29th at 10:30 a.m. The Court will not render its decision on the 29th but will do so in writing sometime thereafter. Their appeal argues the convictions must be reversed because the prosecution failed to prove the required criminal intent beyond a reasonable doubt. They argue they lacked intent due to their correct belief that everybody has a Constitutional Right to peacefully approach a corporation’s public visitor’s entrance to ask executives whose offices are there to read and consider a letter. The appeal also argues the Police acted improperly by unilaterally setting limits on the property’s use beyond any that had previously been established by Formosa Plastics. Some background about Formosa Plastics and the earlier arrests: Formosa Plastics Group has a long history of violating environmental laws and destroying communities. In Point Comfort, Texas, the Formosa Plastics plant was subject to the largest citizen-brought Clean Water Act settlement in U.S. history and continues to disregard a court-ordered zero discharge of plastic mandate, racking up over 600 violations and counting. In St. James Parish, Louisiana, activists are opposing Formosa’s $12 billion petrochemical complex slated to be built in Cancer Alley. In Ha Tinh, Vietnam, a steel plant owned by Formosa Plastics Group was responsible for a chemical spill that’s considered the country’s worst environmental disaster. After fishing grounds were destroyed, the victims whose livelihoods were ruined have yet to see compensation. Additionally, over twenty activists remain in prison for speaking out on the disaster. The Formosa Four were arrested while blocking entrances to protest against Formosa Plastics, a serial corporate polluter, for more planned plastic expansion and more than 700 new violations of a Clean Water Act settlement that requires zero plastic discharge from its Texas plant into Lavaca Bay. Those new violations added $30 million in penalty payments to the original penalties of $50 million. In August 2024, more than 70 protestors – including clergy, parents, and environmental justice leaders – gathered at Formosa’s U.S. headquarters in Livingston, NJ. Six were arrested and charged with criminal trespass. Four of those six, including Goldman Environmental Prize Winner Diane Wilson (<a href="https://www.goldmanprize.org/recipient/diane-wilson/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">https://www.goldmanprize.org/recipient/diane-wilson/</a>), chose to head to trial. They were convicted in Livingston Municipal Court but appealed their conviction. New Jersey Superior Court Judge Arthur Batista issued an important ruling reversing the Livingston Municipal Court’s refusal to allow the necessity and justification defenses. Judge Batista ruled: “It is clear to this court, that these appellants have presented compelling grounds to allow the affirmative defense of necessity - justification to be raised at trial.” Trespassing charges against the Formosa Four were dismissed by a prosecutor after the group had prepared to use the necessity/justification defense to argue that environmental and public health concerns justified their actions. “This dismissal is just another win in the long fight against Formosa Plastics and the damage they continue to do to Texas’s environment and fishing communities,” said Diane Wilson, Environmental Activist and Member of the Formosa Four. “While this decision is a victory, I will not stop taking on this serial polluter that thinks it is above the law, and I will continue to do all that I have to do to protect my community.”

The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms

[Morris Plains, NJ] The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, the early 20th-century historic home of Gustav Stickley, is delighted to invite the public to a FREE Makers Day Open House on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. EDT.

The Makers Day Open House will highlight the works within the museum and those of talented artisan vendors and live demonstrators, celebrating the art of craft in both historic and contemporary forms. The event will take place across the Craftsman Farms property and will include open-house access to the Log House and North Cottage, both adorned with period furniture, textiles, metals, and ceramics from the museum collection.

Completed in 1911, the Log House is one of the most important architectural achievements of the Arts and Crafts movement in America. Originally designed as a clubhouse, it became the Stickley family home and remains the heart of the property today. Docents will be available throughout the museum and grounds to share information about the history and significance of the site.

The event will feature local artisan vendors selling handmade pottery, baskets, and textiles, while sharing their artistic processes with visitors.

Guests will also be able to explore the 30-acre landscape of Craftsman Farms and participate in collaborative demonstrations of basket and textile weaving.

The Craftsman Shop will be open for shopping and will feature a curated selection of contemporary Arts &amp; Crafts and seasonal gifts, perfect for gifting. Guests can browse custom jewelry and accessories, books, home décor, toys, and museum-exclusive items.

MADISON NJ - The Madison High School Marching Dodgers will host its annual “Tournament of Bands” marching band competition on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at its very own Ted Monica Stadium at Twombly Field at Madison High School.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In its 16th competitive season, the Madison High School Marching Dodgers band, under the direction of Program Director Russ Batsch, will perform its 2026 show, “Meet me in Central Park,” which it has performed at competitions around the state.&nbsp; The event will also include 14 visiting bands from around New Jersey:&nbsp; Belleville High School, Bloomfield High School, Chatham High School, Governor Livingston High School, Henry P Becton Reg High School, Hoboken High School, Kearny High School, Lodi High School, Newton High School, Notre Dame Green Pond HS, Rutherford High School, Weehawken High School, West Deptford High School, and West Morris Central High School.&nbsp; “With fantastic marching bands from across New Jersey, this is a show you won't want to miss,” said Director Batsch. “It's going to be an awesome day to see some amazing performances.”

The event is open to the public. &nbsp; Gates open at 11:30 a.m.&nbsp; The event will kick off with the National Anthem played by the Madison Junior School Band at 11:45 a.m., and the competition will start at 12:00 p.m.&nbsp; Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students — and free for children 10 and younger who wear Madison High School’s colors, maroon and gold.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Food and beverages will be available for purchase at “the Hut” located next to the school’s football field, as well as a bake sale tent.
More about the Marching Dodgers
The Marching Dodgers have appeared in local parades in Madison, Morristown, Boonton and Millburn. The group has also performed on Main Street in Walt Disney World in Orlando, and will return there next May.
The Marching Dodgers have a rigorous schedule. In addition to practices during the week, the Marching Dodgers have a full performance schedule. They entertain at home games, and travel with the Madison Dodgers football team to away games to play as a pep band in the stands, supporting the team and rallying the fans. The band kicked off its competition season Saturday, Sept. 21st, at Hunterdon Central Regional High School and the season will run through the beginning of November.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The Marching Dodgers Booster Club and the Madison Marching Dodgers are inviting the public to come to the event on Sunday, October 4th, or another performance during the season to demonstrate support, and most importantly, enjoy the show.&nbsp;
