appearing in person alongside director Adam J. Wilde for the Opening Night screening of Slowburn Shoot: An Indie Wrestling Story
on Thursday, September 24 at the 9th Annual Mystic Film Festival
in Mystic, CT.

The raw and moving documentary chronicles more than 20 years of Absolute Intense Wrestling, the Cleveland-based independent wrestling promotion founded by John Thorne
and his late co-owner Chandler Biggins, and the wrestlers, friendships, sacrifices and community that helped shape its legacy.

The film features appearances by some of the biggest names to come through or be connected to the independent wrestling scene, including Johnny Gargano, Britt Baker, Eddie Kingston, Nick Gage, Ethan Page, Tom Lawlor, Swoggle, Chris Van Vliet and John Thorne, among others.

Mystic Film Festival - Opening Night Reception for "Slowburn Shoot: An Indie Wrestling Story" 

THE MYSTIC FILM FESTIVAL CELEBRATES ITS 9TH YEAR WITH 131 FILMS! 
The Festival’s main slate will showcase 131 new short and feature-length documentary and narrative films from around the world, including films by student filmmakers. The four-day festival will also feature filmmakers’ workshops, panel discussions, networking opportunities, a screenwriting competition, and an awards presentation recognizing this year's outstanding films and screenwriters. 

The Mystic Film Festival will be held September 24-27, 2026, bringing filmmakers and audiences together in Mystic to celebrate established and emerging talent from around the world. Festival events will take place at Mystic Luxury Cinemas, La Grua Center, Mystic Noank Library, and The United Theatre, with workshops and panel discussions led by filmmakers and local experts. 

The Festival will open on Thursday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. (preceded by a wine reception at 6:30 p.m.) at Mystic Luxury Cinemas with a screening of the feature documentary Slowburn Shoot, followed by a Q&amp;A with the film’s director and featured contributors.

On Sunday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m. (preceded by a wine reception at 6:30 p.m.) at Mystic Luxury Cinemas, the Festival jury will present awards to this year's winning films and screenwriters. Additionally, the Festival will honor William Sadler with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Jay Heritage Center (JHC) is proud to welcome educators to our site during September 2026, Constitution Month, to commemorate our nation’s journey towards independence and democracy. The free program is co-sponsored by the Mid-Hudson Social Studies Council. The event will be the first of many lively conversation about America at 250 with some of our country’s leading history scholars. It is open to teachers throughout the Mid Hudson and Sound Shore communities as well as Fairfield County.
Professors David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman and Beverly Gage will take the stage at the new Wachenheim Center to examine the history of the nation-state and the contested nature of American national identity. The panel will discuss what the United States and the Constitution have meant to citizens over time and how that vision has changed or stayed constant. &nbsp;The event is FREE but registration is required.
