The Presbyterian Church in Westfield

Choral Art Society of New Jersey, one of the area’s leading community choral organizations, announces two open rehearsals as preparations begin for its 2026/2027 season. Singers of all ability levels who have choral experience are invited to attend open rehearsals on Tuesday evenings, September 15th and September 22nd. Rehearsals are held in the Chapel of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, 140 Mountain Avenue, Westfield on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm. Attending an open rehearsal is an opportunity to meet members of this very talented, social, growing group of dedicated singers, learn about the Choral Art Society, and consider joining. Interested singers are encouraged to arrive at 7:00 pm on those evenings to complete an interest form, speak with the music director, and borrow music. All voice parts are welcome and no formal auditions are conducted. Questions can be submitted through the group’s website, <a href="https://www.casofnj.org/contact" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">CASofNJ </a>. 
Music Director Seth Velez has planned an exciting and innovative repertoire for the first concert of the season to be held on Sunday, January 24, 2027. The theme is “This Winter Night,” a celebration of the turning of the seasons, with poetry settings focused on the natural beauty of the colder months. The program includes works by John Rutter, Florence Price, Claude Debussy, Johannes Brahms, Ola Gjeilo, Elaine Hagenberg, Franz Schubert, Matthew Culloton, Gustav Nordqvist, and Adolf Lindblad. This collection of shorter works spans a wide range of languages and choral traditions, and promises to have a little bit of something for everyone. The beautiful piano accompaniments will be performed by Choral Art Society accompanist Carol Walker. If you love to sing, plan to attend one or both of the open rehearsals. We would love to see you there! 
Choral Art Society of New Jersey, which originated as The Suburban Symphony Chorus, has been in existence for 64 years and is a group of avocational singers dedicated to the study and performance of the great choral masterpieces, performing works spanning many centuries and styles. It is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization whose members, with a variety of training and experience levels, share a common joy in singing and community. 
Performances made possible by funds from the Union County Office of Cultural &amp; Heritage Affairs, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Galeria "The Art Venue" will host the closing reception for Measured Tenderness, a solo exhibition by acclaimed printmaker and Kean University Associate Professor Julie Harris, on Wednesday, August 26. The event will feature a live artist demonstration from 4:30–5:30 p.m., followed by a closing reception from 5:30–7:30 p.m., at Galeria "The Art Venue", <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/search/111+Quimby+Street,+Westfield,+NJ?entry=gmail&amp;source=g" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">111 Quimby Street, Westfield, NJ</a>.Measured Tenderness explores the intersection of memory, care, vulnerability, and the body through contemporary printmaking. Combining antique children's garments, anatomical imagery, hand stitching, and photographic processes, Harris examines how love, protection, and inherited expectations become embedded within both objects and the human experience. The exhibition invites viewers to consider the traces left by memory and the quiet rituals of care that shape identity across generations.Beginning at 4:30 p.m., Harris will present a live demonstration of her innovative photographic printmaking process, including the creation of a solarfast print. Visitors will gain an inside look at how light-sensitive materials, layered imagery, and alternative photographic techniques are used to create the richly layered works featured in Measured Tenderness. The demonstration offers a unique opportunity to learn about both the technical process and the conceptual ideas that inform the exhibition.The closing reception, from 5:30–7:30 p.m., invites guests to meet the artist, experience the exhibition in its final hours, and celebrate the culmination of this deeply personal body of work.Julie Harris is an award-winning printmaker and Associate Professor of Studio Art at Kean University. Her work has been exhibited in more than 200 regional, national, and international exhibitions and has received numerous honors, including a New Jersey State Council on the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship.
