Steeple Concerts at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield is honored and delighted to invite the general, music-loving public to a long-awaited, live performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s masterful Great Mass in C-minor.&nbsp;&nbsp;On Sunday, May 17, at 5 PM, performed with full chorus and orchestra, this year’s Masterworks tribute to Mozart’s genius will conclude the 2025-2026 Steeple Concerts season.
St. Paul’s is located at 414 E. Broad Street (near Euclid Avenue) in Westfield, NJ.&nbsp; Tickets, priced at $40 for adults and $20 for students, may be purchased online at <a href="https://steepleconcerts.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">steepleconcerts.org</a> or on May 17 at the concert door.&nbsp; Free concert parking is available in the St. Paul’s parking lot off of Euclid Avenue or on St. Paul’s Street next to the church.&nbsp; Following the event, concert attendees are invited to a lavish reception in the church’s Hamersley Hall, where they can meet and greet concert soloists, chorus singers, and members of the professional orchestra. 
 
Mozart (1756-1791) composed his Grossemesse (K. 427) in 1782-83, age 26, when he had moved from Vienna to Salzburg.&nbsp; This move came shortly after his marriage to Maria Costanze Weber (1742-1842), the Austrian singer, businesswoman, and beloved wife who managed Mozart’s legacy after his untimely death in 1791.&nbsp; The Great Mass was possibly “written as a votive offering” to that beloved wife. (Letter to Mozart’s father, Jan 4, 1783).
Though never completed, the Great Mass is considered one of Mozart’s finest, most beautiful works. The work presents on a much grander and more ambitious scale than the 15 settings Mozart had first laid out for it. With coloratura soloist Constanze singing the Soprano 1 parts, the Mass premiered in Salzburg (1783) with only the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, and Benedictus completed.&nbsp; The Mass remains unfinished and will be performed as composed by Mozart, with additional editorial orchestration of the incomplete sections. 
 
Masterworks conductor Mark Hyczko, St. Paul’s celebrated Music Director and organist, notes that, “This Masterworks concert tribute to Mozart brings together a chorus of more than fifty voices, made up of singers from both our St. Paul’s Choir and local Westfield-area communities, together with a full orchestra of professional players, many from the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.&nbsp; ”Mr. Hyczko adds that, “We look forward to presenting soprano Nadine Robinson, mezzo-soprano Cornelia Lotito, tenor Jeremy Blossey, and bass Charles Schneider as our distinguished Mozart Mass soloists.”

The program features Dawn Marie Bazemore’s infectiously jazzy work, The After Party, set to the music of Nina Simone and Nancy Wilson, along with Artistic Director Samuel Pott’s deeply ruminative reflection on humanity’s primal connection to the planet in Patch of Turf. The program also features a new work by Houston Thomas, in collaboration with choral composer Saunder Choi, that was recently awarded the prestigious Princess Grace Award in Choreography, and which responds to Emma Lazarus’ poem, The New Colossus,&nbsp;engraved at the base of the Statue of Liberty. Performances by Nimbus Dance crackle with unexpected creativity and rousing athleticism. Attendees are invited to stroll through the garden starting at 5:30 p.m. and then enjoy complimentary wine and cheese on the West Terrace at 6:00 p.m. before the performance begins at 6:30 p.m.

Supernatural: The Play, is a powerful, funny, and insightful production exploring the lives of seven Black women as they confront their definitions of beauty, identity, and self-acceptance through their relationships with their hair. Rated one of L.A.’s top shows to watch by Stage Raw, the production has played to sold-out audiences across New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Maryland, and California. Now, after a COVID hiatus, an updated reading returns to the stage on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM at Morristown United Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall.
Supernatural: The Play weaves together stories of triumph, humor, and self-discovery making audiences laugh while challenging them to reflect on identity, beauty, and belonging. At its heart, the play examines the cultural and legal battles Black women have faced over their hair. From school and workplace discrimination to the legislative fight behind the CROWN Act, the show celebrates the resilience and self-love that define the journey.
Often described as “The Vagina Monologues—but about hair,” the play brings together rich, real-life experiences of women who have struggled with and ultimately embraced their natural selves. Guided by a dynamic narrator, audiences meet a diverse group of women, including a cancer patient, a woman of Jewish heritage, a YouTube personality, and others, each navigating deeply personal hair journeys that reveal larger truths about identity and acceptance.
Since its debut in 2012, the production has traveled across the country. Leads in the play have included actress Kim Coles (Living Single) and the late Suzzanne Douglas, (When They See Us, How Stella Got Her Groove Back). The production continues to resonate with theatergoers, reminding us all that “everyone has a hair story.”
