Lincoln-Way Area Taxpayers Unite, Inc. (LWATU) is made up of hundreds of taxpayers within the Lincoln Way High School District 210 area. We are parents, senior citizens, business owners, community leaders, retirees, empty-nesters, and District 210 alumni. We live in all areas of the district.
The initial goal of LWATU was to provide facts and figures to help the Board of Education make sound decisions that would be in the best interest of the entire community. It quickly became apparent to us that the district’s problems were the result of years of fiscal mismanagement and deficit spending.
The truth is, our district depleted its cash reserves at an alarming rate over the last 15 years, were you aware? The members of LWATU were not. Had we known of the gravity of the situation, we would have become more involved in crafting a solution sooner. The district administration and BOE could have done so much more to alert the community about the situation. The truth is that it would have taken only a bit of simple math to realize that we were running out of cash.
Despite our best efforts to work with the board as a community, we have been shut out for the last several months. Their unwillingness to work with us only creates more concern for what they may be hiding. We feel strongly that the undisciplined and unnecessary spending by the administration needs to be stopped. Sound fiscal decisions and the development of a long-term financial plan are the only way out of our current situation.
We will continue to demand responsibility and accountability within District 210 by holding the District 210 Board of Education to its financial, educational, and moral obligations to the taxpayers and students of the Lincoln-Way area.
We will utilize a newly-developed News service to continue to inform the Lincoln-Way community about District 210.
