Season Of Celebration with the Livingston Symphony Orchestra
The Livingston Symphony Orchestra’s2026-2027 Season programming celebrates through music, history and spirit two extraordinary milestones: America’s 250th anniversary and the 200th
anniversary of Beethoven’s death. You are invited to join Maestro Anthony LaGruth and the talented musicians` of the non-profit Livingston Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 pm for an exciting opening concert, “The Sounds of Freedom,” at Heritage Middle School, 20 Foxcroft Drive, Livingston.
This live performance kicks off with John Williams’ energetic, slightly off kilter “March from 1941,” from Stephen Spielberg’s 1979 film of the same name. Next, audience members can listen to American composer Charles Ives as he interprets` the meaning of life in the atmospheric “The Unanswered Question.”Amongst his most widely performed overtures, Beethoven’s “Leonore No. 3,” follows, encapsulating the themes from his only opera, “Fidelio,” and echoing the composer’s treasured values of heroism and freedom. The concert is capped off by what is considered by many to be Dvorak’s finest Symphony, his No.7 in D minor.Written during a time of political and ethnic strife and deep personal loss, this work is infused with such passion, grief and patriotism that it is a deeply emotional experience for both musicians and audience members to share.
Tickets for what promises to be an unforgettable evening of fine live music “close to home” can be purchased on the Livingston Symphony Orchestra’s website or at the door on October 24. Seniors and students can take advantage of ticket discounts, and children under 12 accompanied by an adult are welcome free of charge. Season ticket discounts are also available on the orchestra’s website,www.lsonj.org. The great Willem Dafoe lends his delicate gravitas to the role of Ed Saxberger, a forgotten New York poet who works in the post office. After an eager and flattering young admirer(Edmund Donovan) appears on his doorstep, Saxberger is beckoned into a coterie of twenty something admirers who anoint him as a rediscovered genius. Intoxicated by the attention—and by the alluring presence of Gloria, the group’s “tragic heroine” (a sinuous, Kurt Weill–crooning Greta Lee)—Saxberger gradually reckons with the authenticity of his newfound poetic circle. This thoughtful, witty second feature from Kent Jones, working from a sly and hugely entertaining script by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Samy Burch (MAY DECEMBER), is a wistful yet unromantic look at a lost idea of downtown New York.
