Mount Wilson Observatory

Mount Wilson Observatory (MWO), Southern California’s esteemed home to several of the most groundbreaking astronomical discoveries in history, is pleased to present the second Sunday Afternoon Concerts in the Dome of its 2026 season, inside the magnificent vaulted dome of MWO’s historic 100-inch telescope.
On Sunday, June 7, 2026, the audience is invited to Rogue Lemon Collective “High Ground, New Sound”—a program featuring original compositions by the ensemble, including the World premiere of two songs from the collective’s forthcoming debut album, scheduled for release in September 2026. The performance will also showcase innovative arrangements of classical, pop, rock, and film music, performed by musicians Eleanor Dunbar and Megan Shung (violins), Rita Andrade (viola), Zack Reaves (cello), and Karl McComas-Reichl (bass). As in previous seasons, Artistic Director Cécilia Tsan (Principal Cellist, Long Beach Symphony and Los Angeles Master Chorale) curates the series. Each concert date of the season features the same program presented twice—first at 3:00pm and again at 5:00pm. There will be an artist reception at 4:00pm between each concert’s hour-long session. Tickets cost $65 each and are available for purchase online in advance (highly recommended) or at the door, given availability.

VISITING MWO The gate to Mount Wilson’s campus opens at 10:00am daily and closes at 5:00pm from early April through November. Entrance to the grounds is free. Visitors can hike, gaze at the telescope domes and towers that dot the landscape, and take a look at historic Mount Wilson photos and letters in the Museum.
The Cosmic Cafe (<a href="https://www.mtwilson.edu/cosmic-cafe" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">www.mtwilson.edu/cosmic-cafe</a>), located above the main parking lot at the Observatory entrance, is open on weekends in the spring, summer, and fall. In addition to traditional menu items such as hot dogs, drinks, and snacks, the Cafe offers wraps, salads, and sweet treats from Little Flower.
PARKING A U.S. Forest Service Adventure Pass is required to park at the Observatory. A $5 day pass or a $30 dollar annual pass may be purchased at the Cosmic Cafe on weekends between 10:00am and 5:00pm. During the week, passes are available at locations around Los Angeles. The most convenient location before heading up is at the Shell station in La Canada Flintridge at the bottom of the Angeles Crest Highway (<a href="https://find.shell.com/us/fuel/10007957-4530-angeles-crest-hwy/en_US" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://find.shell.com/us/fuel/10007957-4530-angeles-crest-hwy/en_US</a>). Photographic Arts Council Los Angeles (PAC LA) presents “Photography Meets Sculpture” with Eve Schillo on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 7:00pm, at the Beverly Hills Public Library. The LACMA curator will lead an in-depth lecture exploring the relationship between photography and sculpture.
Schillo will offer an early preview of her forthcoming exhibition, “Photography Meet Sculpture: Talking about Photo Hybrids” (working title), highlighting contemporary women artists who incorporate lens based work with sculpture. The exhibition is scheduled to tour Southern California beginning in Summer 2027 as part of LACMA’s Local Access initiative. The presentation will examine how artists today continue to expand the material and conceptual possibilities of photography. PAC LA’s 2026 theme, Year of Innovation, explores how photography has been rooted in innovation since the medium’s inception. Through conversations, lectures, and public programs, the series examines innovation from both historical and contemporary perspectives, considering how artists, curators, and institutions continue to expand the possibilities of photography today.

PAC LA presents “Photography Meets Sculpture” with Eve Schillo

Mount Wilson Observatory (MWO), Southern California’s esteemed home to several of the most groundbreaking astronomical discoveries in history, presents its second Matinees on the Mountain screening of the 2026 season, on Saturday, June 13 at 3:00pm.
June’s Matinees on the Mountain will feature a screening of “Our Heavenly Bodies.” Over a century ago, German director Hanns Walter Kornblum set out to create a film that would illuminate the history of man’s pursuit of knowledge of our universe, and speculate about the discoveries future scientists might one day uncover. Released in 1925, “Our Heavenly Bodies” is part scientific documentary, part science fiction, and a technical marvel of the silent film era, that revels in the beauty and mysteries of the universe. To accompany the film, musicians Linnea Sablosky and Michael Sachs will create a celestial live score that incorporates voice, woodwinds, synth, and the Observatory’s own two-rank organ. This screening is presented in collaboration with The Livonian Cinema (<a href="https://livoniancinema.org" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://livoniancinema.org</a>), a traveling movie theater that creates site specific events in collaboration with artists and communities throughout Southern California. The Bob Baker Marionettes will also be visiting MWO, bringing a selection of puppets.
September 12: “Solaris” (1972): <a href="https://www.mtwilson.edu/events/movie091226/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.mtwilson.edu/events/movie091226 </a>Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, Solaris sees a psychologist travel to a troubled space station orbiting the planet Solaris, where a mysterious alien intelligence manifests human memories and forces the crew to confront their past.

Her burgeoning friendship with Serezade, a gypsy girl always accompanied by her goat, pushes Elena to challenge what she has been taught about the world. The film beautifully renders the dark and mysterious facets of life through a girl’s eyes, capturing tensions between childhood and adulthood, and touching on themes of classism, racism, religion, and emotional honesty, all with extraordinary tenderness.
GOAT GIRL is not just a portrait of childhood in a specific time and place, but a sincere, intimate story that bridges realism and fantasy, comedy and drama. The director’s approach paints a vivid portrait of a generation’s childhood, complete with the small details that make a city and era come alive. It offers a family film that appeals to both younger viewers and adults who appreciate emotional honesty and nostalgia. Writer/Director Ana Asensio was born in Madrid, Spain. She is an actress and producer. Goat Girl is her sophomore film following her surprising <a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4866448/?ref_=nmbio_mbio" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Most Beautiful Island (2017)</a> which earned her the Grand Jury Prize at SXSW and an Independent Spirit Award nomination.

Mount Wilson Observatory (MWO), Southern California’s esteemed home to several of the most groundbreaking astronomical discoveries in history, welcomes the public to the second Saturday Evening Talks &amp; Telescopes of the season on Saturday, June 20, 2026. MWO is honored to present “Gravitational Waves: Ten Years of Exploring the Dark Side of the Universe,” a lecture by Gabriel Vajente, from Caltech. This lecture explores how scientists observe ripples in space-time generated by cosmic events, and what these discoveries have revealed about the universe and the future of astronomy. During the six-month season, each Talks &amp; Telescopes event runs from 5:30pm to 11:30pm with the “talk” portion of the evening beginning in the Observatory’s Auditorium. The 60+ minute presentation is followed by picnic dining—bring your own, or purchase from a food truck or caterer—and then, after the sun goes down, stargazing through Mount Wilson’s immense telescopes, the largest in the world made available to the public. Additional stargazing around the grounds will be available thanks to members of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society.
Both the 60-inch telescope and the 100-inch—the latter famously used by Edwin Hubble to discover the expanding universe—will be available for viewing the night sky. Priced at $50, this event series offers the most economical stargazing event option on the mountain. MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Minneapolis Funk All Stars proudly announce the release of their debut original single, “Gotta Keep The Funk Alive,” available on all streaming platforms June 5, 2026, via Hygge House MPLS.
Written by Jason Peterson DeLaire and Tre Balfour, longtime collaborators and bandmates, and produced by legendary Minneapolis Sound architect St. Paul Peterson, the single is both a celebration and continuation of one of music’s most influential eras. Rooted in the spirit of funk pioneers like James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic, Roger Troutman &amp; Zapp, and the unmistakable Minneapolis Sound movement, “Gotta Keep The Funk Alive” delivers a modern anthem infused with legacy, groove, and authenticity.
The release marks a major milestone for the Minneapolis Funk All Stars, a collective of celebrated musicians who have all played, recorded, or toured with Prince and helped shape the sound that defined an era.
Led by St. Paul Peterson — former member of The Time, lead singer of The Family, and vocalist on timeless recordings including “Nothing Compares 2 U” and “The Screams of Passion” — the group brings together decades of musical chemistry and world-class musicianship.
“This isn’t about nostalgia,” says Peterson. “It’s about carrying the spirit of funk forward. We honor where this music came from while creating something new that still feels alive, soulful, and real.”
