Mount Wilson Observatory

Mount Wilson Observatory (MWO), Southern California’s esteemed home to several of the most groundbreaking astronomical discoveries in history, presents its final Matinees on the Mountain screening of the 2026 season, on Saturday, October 10 at 3:00pm. October’s Matinees on the Mountain will feature a screening of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”. The story centers on a small-town doctor who discovers that people in his community are being secretly replaced by emotionless alien duplicates grown from mysterious pods. Released in 1956, “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” has been praised as one of the best and most influential science-fiction films of the 1950s—spawning several remakes—and was selected in 1994 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Tickets are priced at $20 for general admission and $15 for children under 12. For more information and tickets, please visit: www.mtwilson.edu/events/movie101026. MWO's film series takes place in its 256-seat auditorium, screening classic science fiction, vintage silent films, and even a few family-friendly surprises. Moviegoers can enjoy lunch at the Cosmic Cafe or picnic on the grounds, explore the Observatory’s rich history, and then settle in for a unique cinematic experience 1-mile above the City of Los Angeles. The Cosmic Cafe (www.mtwilson.edu/cosmic-cafe), located above the main parking lot at the Observatory entrance, is open on weekends in the spring, summer, and fall. In addition to traditional menu items such as hot dogs, drinks, and snacks, the Cafe offers wraps, salads, and sweet treats from Little Flower. VISITING MWO The gate to Mount Wilson’s campus opens at 10:00am daily and closes at 5:00pm from early April through November. Entrance to the grounds is free. Visitors can hike, gaze at the telescope domes and towers that dot the landscape, and take a look at historic Mount Wilson photos and letters in the Museum. MWO’s Matinees On The Mountain Presents a Screening of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (1956)

Mount Wilson Observatory (MWO), Southern California’s esteemed home to several of the most groundbreaking astronomical discoveries in history, welcomes the public to the final Saturday Evening Talks & Telescopes of the season on Saturday, October 17, 2026. MWO is honored to present “The Duality of Genius and Struggle: G. E. Hale,” a lecture by Sam Hale, the grandson of MWO’s founder George Ellery Hale. This lecture explores the life and legacy of the visionary behind some of the world’s most important astronomical institutions, drawing on both history and personal connection, with insights into a legacy that continues to shape science and culture today. Tickets are available here: www.mtwilson.edu/events/lecture101726. During the six-month season, each Talks & Telescopes event runs from 5:30pm to 11:30pm with the “talk” portion of the evening beginning in the Observatory’s Auditorium. The 60+ minute presentation is followed by picnic dining—bring your own, or purchase from a food truck or caterer—and then, after the sun goes down, stargazing through Mount Wilson’s immense telescopes, the largest in the world made available to the public. Additional stargazing around the grounds will be available thanks to members of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society. Both the 60-inch telescope and the 100-inch—the latter famously used by Edwin Hubble to discover the expanding universe—will be available for viewing the night sky. Priced at $50, this event series offers the most economical stargazing event option on the mountain. Tickets and more information are available on Mount Wilson Observatory’s website here: www.mtwilson.edu/lectures. Advance purchases are highly recommended. “The Duality of Genius and Struggle: G. E. Hale” “Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men’s blood.” This quote encapsulates George Ellery Hale’s incredible life and monumental achievements. The five astronomical telescopes he built beginning in 1897 were the largest in the world for nearly a century. While living in Pasadena just after the turn of the 20th century, Hale helped transform a community school into what would become the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). At the same time, he was the driving inspiration for the creation of the Huntington Library. While serving on the Planning Commission, Hale was a major force behind the creation of the city’s elegant civic center. As we’ll learn in this lecture, Hale accomplished all this and more while suffering from debilitating emotional issues. Drug Rehab for Couples in California
If you and your partner are ready to stop using drugs, you may be asking: Can we go to inpatient drug rehab together in California? Some residential programs accept both partners, but each person needs an individual assessment. The right option depends on your treatment needs, safety, the program’s policies, available space, and insurance.Couples Helpline - Free Assesment: 888-500-2110

Frequently asked questions

Can couples attend inpatient drug rehab together in California? Yes, some programs admit partners at the same time. Each person receives an individual assessment and treatment plan. Ask whether the facility offers couples counseling and how much contact partners can have during treatment.
Do we have to be married? No. Some programs consider unmarried partners. Admission policies vary.
Can we share a room? Possibly, but many programs house partners separately. Confirm room arrangements directly with the admissions team.
What if one of us needs detox? Tell the admissions team what each partner has been using and when they last used it. A clinician can assess whether either person needs withdrawal management before residential treatment. Detox and rehab may take place at different facilities.
Will insurance cover treatment for both partners? Coverage is checked separately for each person. Network rules, medical necessity, prior authorization, deductibles, and other costs may differ even if you share a policy.
What if only one partner has an addiction? The partner needing residential treatment may be admitted while the other participates in family or couples sessions, if the program offers them and clinicians find them appropriate.
Is attending treatment together always the best choice? No. When there is violence, coercion, or another safety concern, clinicians may recommend separate care or postpone joint sessions.
How do we choose a California couples rehab program? Ask whether the residential facility has a current California license, admits both partners, provides the appropriate level of care, accepts your insurance, and has a plan for treatment after discharge.
