Darien Historical Society

Step into the past and experience the sights, sounds, and stories of Revolutionary-era Connecticut at Experience the Revolution! a dynamic, family-friendly event on Saturday, May 2nd, celebrating 250 years of Middlesex Parish history.
Hosted across three historic sites—the Museum of Darien (10am-1pm), the Mather Homestead (2-4pm), and Highland Farm (all day)—this immersive day brings the American Revolution to life through engaging demonstrations and hands-on activities. 
At the Museum of Darien, visitors will encounter members of the Fifth Connecticut Regiment in full period attire, presenting vivid vignettes of colonial life and artisan skills. A silhouette artist will also be on-site, creating hand-cut portraits in the historic tradition. (Silhouettes are available for $35 each, with advance booking encouraged at <a href="https://museumofdarien.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">museumofdarien.org</a>.) At the Museum, guests can explore:
<ul>
 <li>The daily life of a Revolutionary War soldier</li>
 <li>Children’s military drill exercises</li>
 <li>Authentic soldiers’ drill demonstrations</li>
 <li>Colonial-era flags and their meanings</li>
 <li>A display of authentic 18th-century toys</li>
 <li>Silhouette Artist by appointment </li>
 <li>Special appearance by George Washington on horseback</li>
</ul>
Programming continues in the afternoon at the historic Mather Homestead and throughout the day at Highland Farm, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore Darien’s Revolutionary War heritage. This free community event invites visitors of all ages to connect with the people, skills, and stories that shaped early America.

The event will take place on&nbsp;Saturday, May 2nd&nbsp;from&nbsp;10:00 AM to 4:00 PM&nbsp;at the&nbsp;Westport Museum for History and Culture. This outdoor market will showcase a rotating selection of elevated local vendors offering fashion, accessories, home goods, gifts, and more. A&nbsp;rain date is scheduled for Saturday, May 9th.

Tickets are now on sale for the Noroton Fire Department Fundraiser: Oktoberfest in May!Tickets are $100 each which covers food, German beer, wine, soda, and Smitty’s Polka Band. The event will be held at The Piedmont Club on Saturday, May 2. Doors open at 6 pm, dinner is served at 6:30 and the band performs from 7 to 10 pm.
Trachten/dirndls/lederhosen (German Oktoberfest garments) are recommended but not required. Come dressed ready to have a great party.
