Firsthand accounts of the American Revolution provide historians, museums, and historic sites with critical details for understanding what it was like to experience independence. To mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Historic Trappe, the McNeil Center for Early American Studies, and Ursinus College are partnering to convene a symposium, “Experiencing Independence: Eyewitness Accounts of the American Revolution.”
This free symposium will explore the diaries, journals, letters, and material culture made or used by people in the mid-Atlantic region from 1760–1790. Panels will explore family dynamics in the midst of political upheaval, wartime experiences of soldiers and civilians, accounts from different religious perspectives, and new approaches to non-English sources on the American Revolution.

Free parking will be available at St. Luke’s Fellowship Church, 200 W. Main Street (directly across from the Muhlenberg House).
Limited handicapped parking is also available on-site at the Speaker’s House and Dewees Tavern.

Explore the fascinating history of Pennsylvania German redware pottery, from how the clay was dug and processed, to the role and life of the potter within local culture. Students will start with a prepared slab of red clay with white slip and cut out at least 5 ornament shapes. Then, using the sgraffito method, we’ll scratch through the colored slip for our fraktur designs. Patterns will be provided, based on historic Pennsylvania German redware. Learn how to take traditional images and make them your own through clay.&nbsp;
All ability levels are welcome, ages 13-100!
After the workshop, Emily will bisque fire your pieces, cover them in a clear glaze, and fire once more. Ornaments can be picked up 4 weeks after the workshop. Pick up is at the Dewees Tavern at Historic Trappe.&nbsp;

Take a guided tour through St. Luke’s Cemetery and learn about some of the historical figures resting there. Highlights include the graves of Ludwig and Agnes Ewald, some of Trappe’s earliest residents; Jonas and Christiana Longabough, grandparents of the Sundance Kid; and Civil War soldier Benjamin Simons, killed in action.&nbsp;
Tours will be given at 1 pm and 3 pm on both days.&nbsp;
Location: The Dewees Tavern, 301 W. Main St. Trappe, PA 19426. Park at Ranieri Flooring, 325 W. Main St., and walk to the Dewees Tavern to check in for your tour.&nbsp;
Cost: $15 Members, $20 Non-Members, $5 Students (18 and under).
Tours are limited to 10 people per tour. No walk-ins.
Tickets also include admission to the Dewees Tavern. Please note that the Dewees Tavern is open from 10 am - 4 pm.&nbsp;

St. Luke’s Cemetery has many spooky tales just waiting to be told. Come to the very first Terrifying Tales and hear stories of the 1793 yellow fever epidemic and a poisoned pumpkin pie, the legend of the Sundance Kid and Civil War soldiers who lost their lives on the battlefield.
Please dress appropriately as we will be outside.

Learn how to use pen and ink to create an elaborate letter in the Fraktur style of the late 1700s. Participants will also have the option to grain-paint their own frame to fit their finished 8x10 piece. Perfect to give as a gift or keep as your own.
All ability levels are welcome, ages 13-100! All materials&nbsp;are included. Watercolor sets will available for purchase from Emily for $20.

This year’s Community Day will also coincide with our new fall/winter art exhibit. Tree of Life is a solo exhibition by Natessa Amin featuring bird-inspired artworks from her Split Inheritance series. Large full-body mounts include a Kamchatka Russian brown bear diorama by Bob’s Wildlife Taxidermy, featuring two bears on a custom base, a European brown bear taken in Romania, an additional brown bear, musk ox, Dall sheep, lion, African Limpopo bushbuck, mountain lion, red duiker, baboon, and badger. Bear material also includes a tagged tanned black bear hide and black bear taxidermy rug.
African game makes up a substantial portion of the auction. Species include Cape buffalo, sable antelope, greater and lesser kudu, gemsbok, Beisa oryx, waterbuck, impala, nyala, roan antelope, gerenuk, Grant’s gazelle, Soemmering’s gazelle, red hartebeest, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, black and blue wildebeest, blesbok, springbok, bushbuck, reedbuck, dik-dik, steenbok, duiker, puku, warthog, zebra, hyena, and lion. The catalog also includes a giraffe skull and a fiberglass rhino shoulder mount.
North American game includes an Alaskan brown bear, American bison, western buffalo, elk, pronghorn antelope, mountain lion, mule deer, and numerous whitetail deer mounts, including 8-, 10-, and 11-point examples. Additional international mountain and game species include Himalayan tahr, chamois, Argali, Siberian ibex, Scandinavian caribou, Mongolian gazelle, red stag, and red deer.
Other sporting material includes mounted antler and skull trophies, a mounted largemouth bass, and an alligator hide rug with mounted head. One African puku shoulder mount is specifically identified in the catalog with Werner Taxidermy.
This auction presents a concentrated collection of taxidermy ranging from large full-body bear and lion displays to African plains game, deer, elk, mountain species, hides, skulls, and trophy mounts.

The Chorister Academy at Augustus is one of the best ways in the Philadelphia region to provide your child with a tuition-free, world-class music education.

Our highly-regarded chorister program provides children and youth ages 7 - 17 with outstanding professional choral training, music theory instruction, leadership development, choir camps and trips. No previous musical experience is required, only an eagerness to learn and the ability to match pitch.

The Chorister Academy is open to families of all faith backgrounds and walks of life. Choristers, through their shared pursuit of musical excellence, develop focus, empathy, and teamwork skills as they build lasting friendships along the way.

During the academic year, choristers rehearse on Thursday afternoons from 4:00-5:30 and on Sunday mornings at 9:30, before the 10:30 service of Holy Communion. Choristers are trained to sing on a professional level and join adults in the Augustus Parish Choir to form a cohesive intergenerational choir. The choir sings a broad range of choral repertoire from the 16th century to present day.

We accept new students throughout the year but encourage families to register for the upcoming fall season, if possible.
